My cat had kittens on June 2nd. The day after she had them, my other cat nailed her. I tried to keep them away from eachother but its impossible. Its like their married. They lay together, both clean the kittens, greet eachother when they come in from being outside. Its crazy! I'm gonna get my female cat fixed, but I heard you can't until a week after they have the kittens? I hope everything will be okay! How much is it to get a female cat fixed?

DO NOT call me irresponsible for my cat getting pregnant twice. I do not abandon any animals as I am an animal lover just like you. I am not going to take these kittens to a shelter, I am going to keep some and give the rest to friends who want them. I don't have that kind of money to get both of them fixed. I am also NOT having my cat get fixed while she is pregnant because I am against abortion. How would you like it if you had to get an abortion even if you didn't want to? She could have stopped my male cat from getting her, but it seems as though she was enjoying it.

For those of you who didn't criticize me, thank you. I am going to take all your suggestions into consideration and call my local vet.

You need to spay & neuter both cats. And now you have a growing population of kittens that also need to be fixed! If you really wanted to keep them away from each other you would have found a way, like separating the female & kittens in a bedroom, while the male stayed elsewhere. Some places are creating laws for people like you who act helpless when it comes to the welfare of any animal & making it the law to spay & neuter. I hope you've got good homes lined up for all those kittens, because if you think they're going to stay as small as they are now, think again! And please don't kill them off to deal with your future problems... at least give them to your nearest animal shelter! I sure hope you've learned from your mistake. Sorry if I come off as rude, but come on, you must take some responsibility for the fix you're in?

PS - Talk to a Veterinarian or your nearest animal shelter for advice & see if you can get any rebates or subsidy's or coupons to lessen the cost to fix them & when the safest time would be. Good Luck, you'll need it!

There is no such thing as cat abortion...it is called spaying! They remove the entire uterus along with the kittens. Your cat is not going to know the difference if she is spayed while pregnant or spayed while not pregnant. If you really are an animal lover and you care about your animals...the BEST thing you can do for her is to get her spayed ASAP rather than bringing more kittens into the world. Are you even aware that millions of cats are euthanized each year?? At least start by neutering the male if you cannot afford to do both at once. It is inexpensive for males. Females cost a little more..but look into finding a low cost clinic in your area.

You need to wait longer than a week after they've had kittens - it has to be once the kittens are weaned, so 6-8 weeks after they're born. Once they're spayed they stop producing the milk the kittens need.

If your cat has only just been mated, get her spayed NOW. Yes it will be like an abortion, but if it's within about 2 weeks of mating, most people find this acceptable, it depends on your opinions on abortion.

The other thing you need to do is get the male castrated NOW. Then he can't keep impregnating your female cat! You're in a bit of a vicious cycle now, as females can get pregnant again almost as soon as they've given birth, as you've discovered.

Get your male cat castrated to stop this cycle! And get the female spayed if it's within about two weeks of mating, or, as soon as the new kittens are weaned.

Most vets charge more if your cat is pregnant or in heat. Call your vet and find out how you can do it and how much it will be

Maybe start with getting the male fixed first. Then when the new kittens are weaned get her fixed.

Why don't you get the male neutered? It's less expensive, can be done immediately, and he'll recover more quickly.

Plus, if he's an outside cat, it will keep him from siring kittens up and down the neighborhood!

If your female is early in her pregnancy, the vet can still spay her, and end the pregnancy at the same time.

It's a lot cheaper to get her "fixed" than to have to deal with litters of kittens or pay the vet $$ for dystocia or a pyometra.

Check with your local humane society to see if there are any low cost spay/neuter options in your area

Your local Humane Society will give you a good deal if you get your cats fixed. Call them. They're are way too many unwanted cats/dogs at the Humane Society and they'll be happy to help you.

Fix them both ASAP, nothing worse than people dumping off a load of kittens on someone else's property. over the past three years I have found 6 kittens of my peoperty. Yes they were dumped by Irresponsible people like yourself who can't be bothered having their pets nutered at six months age. I dare not think about the hundreds of kittens that are dumped every year and NOT found by people who are willing to care for them.
