It doesn't. But it tends to when the scientists are honest.

Statement of The Center for the Study of Science and Religion: "Sciences respond to a felt need to understand the world, and religions respond to a felt need for the world to have meaning. From these different starting points, one issue emerges at the junction of any science and any religion: are these felt needs commensurate? That is, is the universe a moral place, so that the natural order is relevant to human lives and human values; do faith and family, love and charity mirror any larger meaning than the meanings we give to them? Today, to a first approximation, the answer to these questions from any religion is Yes, and the answer from any science is No."
Peter Atkins: "Science is almost totally incompatible with religion."
Mark Friesel: "The difference between faith and a conditional reliance on observation of the natural world is profound. It is the unresolvable difference between religion and science."
But.....
Albert Einstein: "After religious teachers accomplish the refining process indicated, they will surely recognize with joy that true religion has been ennobled and made more profound by scientific knowledge."
Anon: "There can never be a conflict between true science and true religion, because they both describe reality." Excerpt from a posting to a religious mailing list.
Religion, which requires faith without proof, is sometimes difficult for those used to thinking along the lines of finding proof for every idea in order to make it accepted.

Art doesn't make truth claims about the natural world. Christianity does. Christianity makes the claim that god exists, that god created the universe 6,000 years ago, that a virgin got pregnant to give birth to god/god's son, etc, etc, etc.
Then there's the Bible and its claims.
If you are not a Biblical literalist, then you must wonder what is literal, what is figurative. If you don't take the Bible to be perfect, then you really can't claim it to be the word of a perfect god. You also have the problem of what is right and what is wrong if the Bible contains mistakes.
If there were no Bible, there would be no Christians. And the Bible is FULL of contradictions and scientific inaccuracies. One of those is that the earth and plantlife are older than the sun and the other stars.
Art is about expressing emotions, thoughts, feelings.
Religion is about making truth claims about nature with no scientific evidence to back those claims up.

Science does not have to explain religion but it also does not have to actively try to disprove relgion either. Once science tries to disprove relgion then Christians have to provide a defense for their faith because it is being attacked. Science does not like religion so they reject it because they can not prove it through emperical means and so reject all spiritual answers. If you immediately reject a group of answers because they do not fit with preconcieved notions of how you think the universe works then you are being just as dogmatic by trying to hide behind a veil of science that can not be proven either but just looks more "real" to you.

Many in science do not accept the teachings that other scientsits teach. God tells us that false knowledge is not of Him, and if something run contrary to His word, it is false. We dont need science to explain our faith. We only need the word of God and it tells it all. Read in scripture what God says about false knowledge.. science.
WE as Christians listen only to what GOd says, that settles it , we believe it and do as He says. We dont need a scientist to tell us we are right or wrong. Only God knows. HUH
Much in science is true, but also is mixed in so much error. The only way for full truth is to Go to GOd. Never let anyone take away what God has given to you. Press on with JESUS. We dont have blind faith, there is so much evidence of things being true. Faith in God yep?? Blind? NOPE>

Unfortunately it goes both ways scientists reject religion, and many religious reject science. It is like comparing forensics with criminal psychology they are two things that though ultimately intertwine have very different purposes.

If religion cannot be explained logically and scientifically, then what is your basis for believing it?
Can you really compartmentalize your thinking to the extent that you would live your life based on logic and reason except for religion?

It doesn't. The material and mystical conceptions are entirely different ways of looking at reality. You don't use a car battery to validate a book.
