My cat Loala is about 9 years old. She goes into heat very often. I was thinking about getting her spaded, but I don't know if I should. Is she too old to get spaded?

You can still get her spayed, she'd be much better off. Just tell your vet about your concerns. 9 years old is not that old for a cat. All the best;^)

No, she's not too old. 9 isn't particularly old for a cat, it's around middle aged. It will still save her from pyometra (womb infection) and cervical cancer when she's older.

Age alone has no bearing on how safe an operation is - it's the health of the cat that is important. I would suggest a basic blood profile at your vets before the operation, to see how she's functioning internally. The vet will probably recommend this.

Do make an appointment asap, it certainly isn't too late.

EDIT: She will no longer come into heat once spayed. Coming in to heat is not 'habit', it's hormones - and these are removed along with the uterus and ovaries when a cat is spayed.

It is best to get the cat spayed before the age of 5 months, but typically older cats can be spayed without problems. I would talk to your vet because the older they are, the more risk is involved.

'Spayed', not 'spaded' :)

It's great that you're wanting to get her spayed, it's a lot better for her health. Your vet will be able to advise you on the risks of putting her under anaesthetic based on her current medical situation- they may want to run blood tests before considering an operation to make sure that her body can cope with the anaesthetic.

My suggestion is to contact your vet to ask if there are any health issues with getting an older cat spayed. In general, it's definitely healthier for a cat to be spayed if she's not reproducing.

No cat is too old to get spaded, but it leaves a bit of a mess.
Not only that, but I'm sure you'll have some legal problems as a result.

Absolutely not! Cats can be spayed when they weigh 3 lbs. or more. The older Loala gets without being spayed, the greater her chances of mammary cancer become.

It's SPAYED and it would be the best thing you could do for her right now. Older unspayed cats are prone to infections of the uterus called a pyometra = $$ surgery

Have her spayed. The fact is, the older she gets, the more likely she is to suffer the ill effects of not being spayed (uterine infections, etc).

you can get her spayed, and it might make things a bit easier on her health, but it won't take her out of heat.
Heat, by the time they're this age, is a habit, and she's going to be in it. It's instinct. The heat wont go away. But she can still get preggers, so I am a HUGE fan of spaying.

Not to mention, spaying cats reduces their health risks.
