My parents had a dog that ate leftovers. It got to 12 then developed diabetes and lost bladder control and had to be put to sleep.
I guess you have to make your own conclusions and decide what you think is best for your dog.
short life + interesting food VS long life + bland food.
Which is better? Personally I'd choose life over food. I'd want to spend as much time as I could with my buddy and would hope his "end years" are healthy and pain free.

Depends on exactly what you mean by 'human food' - but in general yes, this will not be healthy for the animal.
Dogs have very different nutrient requirements from humans. If by 'human food' you mean chicken, mince, rice etc then this will work for a dog for a while - but it is not enough for the animal's nutrient requirements and eventually the dog will become malnourished and have the associated health problems.
If you're friend is feeding a dog bits of whatever meal he's having on a regular basis (burgers, curries etc) then this is not good for the dog at all - firstly he will become fat, and then he will start to suffer all the problems that come with poor nutrition and overweight - bone disorders, heart conditions, diabetes - and these will eventually shorten his life.

It is a good possibility because dog food is made specifically for a dogs system, to keep it healthy.. Human food does not have the right stuff that a dog needs...

Probably, depends on the human food. My dogs live on raw meat, etc, but that is healthy for them, so they will live longer if anything. If she has been feeding them foods that are fried, fat, etc, the dog was probably overweight, and unhealthy, so yes, dogs CAN die earlier if they are fed the wrong types of human food.

its fine, we give my puppy human food and shes fine..though a little chubby we have to cut down on the pizza crusts...wild dogs would eat stuff like that if they came across it too an our vet says its not a problem except for fatty foods witch will do nothing but make her fat, and fat people usually die earlier...so as long as its not fattening, or chocolate and grapes (these are poisin to dogs) its fine

I think it just depends on WHAT human food you're feeding him/her. Dogs being overweight can lead to early death, arthritis and other complications... Your dog doesn't know any better. He/she is going to eat whatever you put in front of him/her. So it's the owner's responsibility to watch what's going into the dog's body.

It's not healthy becuase they are getting more unwanted fat and less nutrients. Dog food is specially designed to give dogs the right stuff to help them live longer

Yes human food can shorten a dogs life span...
As human we can handle all of the fat and salt and sugar our food comtains but for any other animal it can hurt it.
