Wushu is a collection of forms from several systems among them are Tai-Chi and Ba-Gua. All the forms are very functional but displayed in a VERY STYLIZED manner for the enjoyment of an audience, since the forms are done so fast and so stylized many people think they are nonfunctional but that would be an incorrect assumption. I would prefer to call it performance art than a sport. As the other post suggested check You Tube and type in Wushu for a view of some of the forms and enjoy!

What used to be called Kung Fu in the 70s and early 80s is now called Wushu. The reason is because the word "Kung Fu" is a general chinese term for 'hard earned physical skills' which can be applied to anything from fighting to cooking to painting. It's like the word "Sport" in English, boxing and wrestling are sports but can also be called fighting arts, while figure skating may be a sport but is not a fighting art. Hence most Chinese martial artists today prefer to call their art by the more specific term of "Wushu" which means 'fighting arts'.
