I know what the - + means (Rh protein). But I couldnt find out if they can donate to eveyone. I also know that O doesnt contain A or B and is an universal donor type. So Im wondering what role does the Rh protein play in donating blood.

The Rh protein is either present or not - people with a + can get either blood (with or without the protein) and people with a - can only get negative blood (without the protein)

the same thing works for the a and b stuff - that is why o can give to anyone - anyone can get blood that does not have the a or b (or the protein). however, only people with the a or b or positive protein can receive blood that also has those things in it. If they don't have it then the body will treat the a or b or + like an invader and work to expel it - which ends up killing the recepient

u can donate blood , but ull be in bit of a jam if they don't have a lot of blood and U need the blood, cause only o- can donate to o-.

rh protein is named after the protein found in rhesus monkey.
so, rh+ means u have the protein. they mixed the monkey's blood with human blood. the obnes that reacted with the monkey's blood, they called it rh+.

also, good information to have is that some blood types are sometimes allergic to certain foods and some food they are able top metabolize better. people with o blood generally have stronger stomach acids, so they can digest meats better. poultry and grains are not very good for B, but fich is.
people with A have more likelihood for cancer.lolz, don't go crazy if some of ur relatives have an A type and don't eat too much meat.

another interesting fact is that some blood types are more common in some parts of the world. example O is very common in latin america, B is higher in central asia than in other parts of the world, A is higher in europe than other parts of the world. O is the most common blood type, overall. AB- is the rarest.

O positive can donate to any blood type except O negative. Only O negative can donate to all other blood types. Conversely, AB+ can receive from all other blood types.

O- can donate to anyone, provided that they don't harbor some nasty dread disease. Currently, as well, most blood balns will not allow you to donate blood if you've traveled recently to Africa, India, Asia, or Russia (as well as several other parts of the world) or if you are an IV drug user of homosexual.

But assuming that you are none of these and you are O-, your blood is in high demand because you have no reactive antigens, and thus anyone (+ or -, A, B, or O) can receive your blood.

Rh factor is another antigen often called D that may be present in red blood cells. People whose blood has Rh antigen are Rh positive; those missing the Rh fantigen are Rh negative. Rh negative people don't have natural antibodies to the Rh antigen, and for them this antigen is foreign. If an Rh negative person receive Rh positive blood by mistake, antibodies will be formed just as they would be to bacteria or viruses. A first mistaken transfussion often dont causes problems, because antibody production is slow during the first exposure to Rh positive. A second transfussion, when antibodies for Rh are present , will bring transfusion reactions.

Rh refers (primarily) to the D antigen. Individual with the D antigen are Rh+. Those who lack the D antigen are Rh negative. If Rh+ blood is give to and Rh negative individual the Rh negative person may develop an Anti-D antibody as an immune response to the Rh+ blood. You are correct in stating the type O does not contain A or B antigens. Thus, type O negative blood - since it lacks A, B, and D antigens is considered the Universal donor -- meaning all blood types can receive it. Most hospitals give type specific (A+ gets A+, B- gets B- etc) blood to patients if possible. In trauma cases where patient's blood type in unknown, we give O negative blood.

Can O Donate To Anyone

The + and the - means if you have a protein or not. Negative blood and give to negative and positive, but positive can only give to positive. So, O- can give to ANYONE. But, O+ can give to any blood type as long as they are positive (So, A+, B+, AB+ or O+).

Hope that this helps...
