The bible says the following: "Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong." (Romans 13)
Correct me if I'm wrong but if you were someone who opposed Saddam Hussein and his dictatorship government (say a US Army soldier in Iraq or just an angry Iraqi citizen) then you should go against the bible? This biblical quote even suggests that God Himself established Saddam's totalitarian government and that anyone who rebels against Saddam is rebelling against God. Is this really true?

Hello. First of all this is somewhat of a deep question and may need a pastor's insight to which I direct you there but
for now; all things work for God's good purpose, but there is t such a thing as man's free will and we can lose sight of God's will for us when we start listening to our own will.
Saddam was human and also someone in authority and will be held accountable for his actions just as we all will.
Only when turning from Jesus Christ is it "unchristian".
One should never go against the Bible, It is the living Word of God. God does put people in authority, but it's up to the person how he decides to rule. There is never a valid reason to rebel against God. God loves all people and wants them all to love him but remember that "free will" thing? It tends to get in our way. I'm going to leave it at that and as I said, seek out a Christian pastor and get his perspective as well.
Hope I was of help.

No! God did not put Saddam in power. He was a dictator who led a bloody coup. He was not voted for by the people of his country. The quote suggests that a real ruler would not have their people living in terror and they would do wrong not to follow a peaceful leader.

It is not illegal to have a war.
Whether a person is in agreement with the war effort is yet another question.
If you're in the Army, then it is your job to defend the causes your country believes in and stands for .... that's what you signed on the dotted line to do.
Sorry, no disclaimers and no you can't pick and choose.
Now let's hope people can answer your question 'in a mature manner'.

u're reading the bible like u were reading twinkle little star...u have to use ur discretion. yes it says that, but the Authority used in the bible means a good authority. wat u mean is that bein in power automatically means doin wat u like. NO. also there's a part of psalms or proverbs that says
"the fool says in his heart there is no God"...okay now anyone can read the last four words and say, hey the Bible said 'there is no God'...thats exactly wat u're doin but in another sense...the right thing to do as a Christian, is not to judge anyone even if Saddam did things that were in humane, no one had the right to judge him or even be executed. God is the only judge.

Saddam is dead, it's kinda hard to oppose him at this point, unless he's resurrected somehow.

he was a bad person. plus the bible is freaking warped. god himself didn't write it, a bunch of blokes who said they were prophets did. and who knows if they were all just a bunch of racist, homophobic, wierdos. which they probably were.
