The greatest resistance comes from the stance that is so prevalent here. The consistent and rude statements that imply someone who believes in God is "less than" someone who believes in science without God. If these people would act more like adults and less like rude children they'd find out that Christians would be more willing to admit the possibility that evolution may be one of the methods God used but their ignorant rants and insults put Christians on the defensive and they will fight for the right to be treated like people instead of treated like "sub humans" by intolerant children.

Because some people have pinned their entire life on the literal truth of a book.
They are willing to spin those words as much as they can be spun to fit into reality (apologetics is just spin) but when there is something that plain contradicts it they have to fight to save their faith.
If navel engineering was a subject for school kids and they were taught how the wooden ark could never have survived a normal sea swell, never mind a 40 day storm, then they would be fighting that one too.
The bible is their god.

Mostly it stems from ignorance to the actual science behind it. It goes against certain beliefs and also appears to be contradictory to what humans desire to believe. Humans seem to want their lives to be meaningful and have a purpose. This is restricted with evolution. Therefor people are much more likely to take a side with lack of education and information, and accept it as truth.

It's the religios people trying to interpret the theory of evolution and natural selection and all that as being contradictory to God when it isn't. Obviously you people haven't even read it. Also, did you know that Darwin went to a seminary before becoming a naturalist and believed in God?

People don't want to believe that they are going to really die someday. If they can keep their precious supersticious religious ideas alive they can continue to believe they will not really die. Evolution is a threat to their supersticion since it offers an alternative explanation to how we got to where we are now from the biblical one. If they mount an offensive counter argument to the evolutionary explanation they can keep their supersticion alive. Talk about denial.

Hey, they still hold on to texts written in the Bronze Age. By that timeline, this idea's got a long run ahead of it.

Because there's people who
1. (profess to) follow Jesus Christ, who accurding to the bible was a huge fan of metaphors.
yet
2. assume that nothing in the bible can be a metaphor.
In short: They're fundamentalists that would make many Jesuits of the 16th century cringe.

One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we've been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. The bamboozle has captured us. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.

Because Jesus Christ is written down in the history books and has FACTS. Read the Case for Christ for more informatoin.
You think Christ doesn't exist?
If you are ignorant and not knowing of Christ...you will see when the time comes for you.
The best thing for us to do is to be Christians.
People who aren't just want to make another excuse for how we got here.
THE ANSWER OF THAT IS GOD.
