Do some people go dressed casually, or does everyone dress up?

You'll find a mix of both casual and "dressed-up". Many men wear dockers with a blazer or sports jacket, while others come in jeans. Ladies wear slacks, dresses and skirts. You'll see it all.
I'm going to se "Curtains" tomorrow for a Saturday matinee, and plan on wearing dockers and a sport shirt. I will absolutely not be out-of-place.
Wear what's comfortable for you and enjoy the show.

Yup, it totally depends on what your seeing. I went to see Beauty and the Beast, and most people came dressed very casually. Ofcourse, don't go in sweats ;)
Just play it safe and wear something you would consider nice looking but still casual.

people do NOT dress up to go to broadway. I've sat next to people in jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc.
You can dress up if you have great seats in the front, but casual but nice is safe.
a gown or suit is total overkill.

When you go to Broadway, you dress somewhat like business causal. I wouldn't suggest wearing any type of jeans or t-shirts or boots or tennis shoes. Dress up how you would if you were going to church.

We saw the Jersey Boys and jeans and tennis shoes were inappropriate. Wear nice church type clothes and you will fit in.

depends wat show your seeing, if its like beauty and the beast, more casual but if its like phantom of the opera or les mis, dress up not like dress but like elegant skirt and nice sweater. casual yet stylish is good attire for any play on broadway

most of the people dress up... a lot!
wear something formal or fancy.... very newyorker.
A black suit and color shirt/tie always work. Shiny shoes.
