my blue crown conure hasn't been clipped for a long time and it flew outside and into a 20ish foot tall palm tree. I can't even see it, but i hear it and my mom is watching it right now. Whats the best way to get it down without it flying away?

Call your local wildlife rescue organization, explain that your bird is in a tree and you need help getting him down. Their volunteers are trained in recovering birds in all kinds of situations and without harming them. After they've returned your beautiful bird to you, write them a nice donation check for saving your baby.

Ok, the scolding for letting a bird be unclipped will come later. Go get the bird's favorite food or treat and try to lure it down with the treat. Hold it up in the air and say something like "Polly, Want an apple?" or whatever. This MAY get the bird down. Try coaxing it down by calling for it, maybe climb the tree if you can. Something else to try is to put it's cage outside where the bird can see it and fill the food and water bowls. Maybe ring a bell in it's cage to get it to come down. The bird may get sick of the tree and want to go back to its cage. Really, this is all you can do. If the bird starts to fly again, follow it! I hope he comes back home!

Clip the birds wings! I hear this all the time "my bird flew away, now what?" It takes 10 minutes (at most) and you can even do it yourself and it prevents things like this from happening! Please clip the wings when you get it back

First have someone keep her in sight. Talk to her to keep her calm, try calling her to come ( if you haven't taught her a re-call word.
Take her cage outside where she can see it and leave the door open for her, have food and water in the cage too.Or put the food bowl ontop of the cage for her to see.

Don't give up on your efforts to get her back down and safe!
Come On Pretty Bird..and hold your arm out beside your body as a perch for her to land on.
* reason for a cage - most birds in this situation will not land on grass.

Many birds donot know how to fly down/back from a tree to you. So don't sound stressed, stay calm so as not to frightened her away and keep showing yourself to her and talking in an up beat tone of voice.

Try bring her favorite toy so she can see it. Favorite food, apple or. Try lots of things to get her to come to you.

IF she flys out of view and IF you can't find her, make and put up fliers every where, go online and post her lost on http://www.911.com/ site add a picture too.

Stay calm, don't cause her any more stress as hard as that is to do for you. Good Luck, I hope she comes back, many do!

Put a white sheet on the ground near the tree. Put the bird's cage on the sheet with the door open (the sheet is to get his attention). Hope

Print out your question, and take it down to your local fire department.

Incidentally, if I were somewhere near palm trees, I'd do the same thing, so don't scold the bird when it gets home.

Leave you windows open, hopefully he will fly in. Let everyone know just incase someone catches him they can let you know. He may not be lost forever. I have seen them come back. Put some food on the inside of the window seal also. Hopefully this will help. Good Luck!
