what's the best to have? or are they close to being the same

They're basically the same...one you get when completing high school & the other you get if you weren't able to complete it for one reason or another but proved that you know what you should as if you had finished high school. Nowadays it seems having a GED is the better looking option though....especially when you're applying for jobs. I've seen & known soooo many kids who can just bullsh!t their way through school & get a diploma whereas you honestly have to know your stuff to get a GED...you don't pass the test, you don't get it & have to keep trying. However, you do have to have a very good reason for quitting school & getting your GED. I know quite a few people who have had to & for very good reasons. My best friend quit cause there was a teacher making her live a living hell during her senior year & nothing was being done about it no matter how much her mom (a woman you dont wanna mess with!) was getting in on it to try to put a stop to it. My cousin got her GED cause my Aunt homeschooled all her kids. My sister's ex bf had to quit cause he got kicked out of his house & had to move around & stay w/ various friends in various places & wasn't always able to get a ride to be able to go to school. My ex quit school cause family life was pretty bad (one of the parents was an alcoholic i think) & he had to start working full time to pay the bills & help take care of his younger siblings.

High School Diploma. They are close to being the same I guess but having an actual diploma means you graduated high school with your class. A GED means you had to finish your schooling another way.

It is according to how old you are. If you are under 18 and get a GED a lot of places will not hire you, they feel that you couldn't stick it out in school, and you probably won't be dependable. You have to have a very good reason for quitting school.

Go for the diploma. Employers really don't look at the two as the same and that includes the military.
