You may want to contact the Horse One-to-one Outreach Foundation, Inc (HOOF). According to their web site, they are a non-profit dedicated to providing the community with educational horse outreach programs.

Here's an idea for you that I think you would like. Volunteer as an usher at one of the performing arts venues in Burbank.
Gosh, zoos, dog grooming businesses would love to use you in their programs if you wish to volunteer to work with the animals. Especially cleaning up.
