my last question asked people to give me facts as to why there is not a God, god, whatever. i obviously made quite a few of you mad, and i am sorry. i just never hear the other side to things. i am tired of speculations and opinions. what i want are facts to prove he does or doesn't exist. i am sorry i didn't make that clear the first time and that it aggravated you. i am just a 15 year old girl trying to get some answers.

Scientifically and philosphically speaking it is impossible to prove a negative. It therefore rests on those who say there is a god to prove it.

So far the silence has been total...

If there were clear facts one way or the other, then we would either all follow the true religion or we would all be atheists.

It all comes down to a question of faith.

Do you have faith that there is a greater power or not?

Personally I do not.

With equal evidence for God, Zeus, Odin, Osiris, and all the other hundreds of gods out there I see no reason to pick one over any of the others.

Looking at the human psyche I can see how we need explanations for things we do not understand. It is necessary for early man to invent gods to do this.

I have no evidence disproving god. You can never disprove something like god. Try disproving that fairies exist or that there is a small teapot in orbit around the sun. It is impossible to do so.

But I can say that these things are so improbable that it is not worth considering. Especially if I have something that explains how the myths arose in the first place.

Was Santa real to you when you were little? Or the tooth fairy? How do you feel about those things now?

Good luck with your search. The most important thing you can do is keep asking questions and keep challenging what you think is true. Maybe what you think will survive those challenges maybe it will make you realise that you were wrong and you need to correct your thoughts.

Well, I think the point is that it's impossible to prove that God doesn't exist. It's also impossible to prove that Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy and El Chupacabra don't exist.
Some theists would have us believe that since we can't prove God doesn't exist, that means we have to believe that he does. Using that logic, we'd also have to believe that Santa, Tooth Fairy and Chupacabra (and all other mythical beings) exist. Which obviously is a ridiculous idea.
That's why the burden of proof ALWAYS lies with whomever is making the claim. Atheists are claiming nothing, and therefore have nothing to prove. Theists are claiming there's an invisible man in the sky who created us and who's currently running the world. Therefore, they have a great deal to prove.

Don't worry about it. Many people question God at some time or another. It's not wrong...Job did. The difference between you and some other people is that, like Job, you are truly searching for God. Or at least it seems that way to me. Now there is no actual proof that God exist. Wouldn't that defeat His purpose? He wants us to follow Jesus in faith, not on concrete evidence that He is real. Want proof? Try this. Science has decided that the universe began out of a big bang. Well, who caused the bang? It couldn't happen out of nothing...that goes against science. God started this whole thing. There's no other possibility. But your faith can only be developed by you. Your parents can help guide you, church leaders can help, Christian friends can help. But only you, through prayer and the study of God's Word, can develop a relationship with the Creator of the universe.

Proof?
The Old Testament was written many centuries BEFORE Christ came. It is full of prophecies concerning Christ's coming. When He came, He fulfilled the prophecies, and it is important to note that there were prophecies made that NO HUMAN could fulfill by trying. For instance, where He was born, how He would die, etc.
There were MANY witnesses to Him, and all He did.
An empty tomb proves He raised from the dead, as was ALSO prophecied, proving also He is God.
All the answers and proofs are in the Bible.
I truly recommend you read a few Josh McDowell books. He gives some very good answers.

In order to get the true perspective on the issue, you will have to turn around your thinking a bit. You see, when considering whether something exists or not, we do not say "prove to me that it doesn't exist," we say "prove to me that it does." This is easy to do when considering other things like leprechauns. You don't say "prove they don't exist" you pretty much dismiss the claim until someone can give you a reason to believe in them.

This leads to a logical decision: believe in God or not. When making most decisions about the existence of things, you consider the evidence - for leprechauns we have only anecdotal evidence, that is, stories from people who have supposedly seen one or something like that. Given no other evidence in spite of years of others researching and trying to discover evidence of the leprechaun, you will logically conclude that leprechauns do not exist. This is the same process atheists follow when considering God, and you can see how NOT believing in God is the logical choice.

There is as much proof that the Easter Bunny exists as any "god". The very fact that you can ask that question is a testament to that. If there were proof that god exists we would have to accept it.

You cannot prove that something does not exist. If it is not there it is not there. That is why the burden of proof always falls on the person making the claim in the scientific method.

Anyone who tells you otherwise is trying to deceive you in order to validate their own beliefs

Christianity is based on faith, there is nothing that you can touch or see that proves God does or does not exist. Either you have faith or you don't. My recomendation to you would be to pick up a few books on God and Christianity or visit a few different demoninations of churches. They may be able to answer your questions better.

I think that if there is one thing you should come away from R&S with is that you will never escape speculations and opinions.

God/gods do not lend themselves to the sort of definite proof or disproof you seem to want.

God/gods function within a social context. As long as there are societies/individuals that need god/gods, he/she/it/they will be there.

Do not let your youth be intimidated by us old codgers. Hang in there. Keep studying. Keep arguing. R&S would be less with out you and individuals like you.

First you have to tell us which god you are trying to disprove. There are hundreds of thousands of gods and some have very few details left over so they are a bit harder to disprove.

As far as a god in general, such as the deist point of view, well that really can not be done.

I like the 'common sense' argument, if that's what you call it. It is hopelessly flawed, with 'common sense' the rationale for the purges in China during the cultural revolution, Cambodia with Pol Pot, and Stalin, with his death toll somewhere between 30m and 120m. 'Common sense' has told folks to take the quickest way out of a burning building - the elevator.

As a Christian, I look at nature. It can't have happened by chance, it just isn't possible. I've seen the miraculous in my own life, and in the lives of others.

He can't be 'proved' to exist or not exist. He does reveal Himself to those who seek Him however.
