I don't know. It shouldn't be. Just look at some of the governments that are completely controlled by religion. Not exactly peaceful or lovers of peoples' rights.

It isn't. Religion may be mentioned at times, or members of the government can be personally religious, but religion has nothing to do with the workings of the government.

Because although historical revisionists have set out to remove every vestige of our Christian heritage from our text books, this country was founded as a Christian nation.
Columbus sailed in his words "To the glory of God and for the advancement of the Christian faith"."columbus use of the Bible is one of the best documented facts of his remarkable carreer, but it is one of the least known to the general public."
The founding of America is the only time in history, as a matter of fact, when a nation, from scratch, was based on God's word."
The Mayflower Compact was the first American document, both religious and political.
Ther are too many facts to write here. The Christian heritage of this nation and the Christian basis of our Constitution are extremely well documented. I can recommend some movies and books with the facts that you won't get in school.
DVD'S One Nation Under God &
The War On Religious Liberty
both By D. James Kennedy
Books One Nation Under God by David C. Gibbs put out by Christian Law Assosiation
The Christian The Court and the Constitution by Jay Alan Sekulow
Original Intent by David Barton
I also recommend that you visit some web sites such as
Coral Rdge Ministries -
The American Center For Law And Justice - The Christian Law Assosiation
That's the only way you can find the truth about our nations heritage, is to look for it yourself, as some are determined to remake America into a secular or pagan society, and are trying to move our nation away from it's Christian foundations.
God bless!!

Because if it weren't ... well, look at the former Soviet Union. That officially atheist communist regime killed 50 million of its own people in just 80 or so years.
Look at the atheist communist governments that exist today -- in Cuba, in China, in Vietnam. Horrible human-rights records.

Most all of our laws are based in the bible. Read the commandments (Hint: There are more than ten!).In honesty you can't have one with out the other. Government introduces laws and the laws, even the new ones, are based on old laws, which are based on biblical principals.

I'm quite sure that the House of Reps don't sit around and pray together right before they get down to business.
Religious people are citizens and voters.

"Our" gvt? As in... the US gvt? Which gvt is "our" gvt? My gvt is Canadian and religion is never involved in my gvt. We learned a long time ago to keep the two things separate. But Americans never do anything half way, it isn't in their nature.
