This happens to me every so often and I have had mine for 7 years. It is on my lower back and full of color. I never really thought anything of it because it does not happen all the time and when it does it is very minimal. It will itch and I will scratch it and it does get a few little bumps in it. I really don't think it is anything to worry about, but I am not a doctor or tattoo artist. Have a tattoo artist check it out for you if you are really concerned, it can't hurt and it will put your mind at ease.

Does the itchyness and bumpiness go away? if so it may just be something your going to experience from time to time. But if the bumps are always there you may have a staph infection. Even though the tattoo is healed and a couple years old it is possible the staph has trageted the tattooed area. Staph is a bacteria on everyones body. Easily taken care of by your doctor.

Could be! It depends on if you have very dry skin in that area. If you don't moisturize your skin then it will bump up and itch like crazy. Try Vaseline Intinsive Care Lotion for severely dry skin, try 100% Cocoa Butter, or 100% Shea Butter. These are really good moisturizers one of them will definitely work. Try one for about a time period of 2 weeks, apply 3 times a day, and you should see improvement. If it does not work, then the person that gave the tattoo could have use some bad ink and you will have to go to the dr. for that. Hope all ends well!!!!

yeah. that itching should have happened like 3-4 days after getting the tattoo...plus, you should not be seeing it get bumpy. you might have an infection. try bacintracin. if that does not work, you might have to resort to getting it removed so that the ink is out. it might be causing some infection under ur skin

I agree you should see a doctor. However, because a tattoo is in fact a scar with ink in it, the scar tissue that forms, although it may be slight can cause problems with blocked pores or ingrown hairs. I've seen it in the past. Or it could be a developing ink allergy just like someone said before. Just keep in mind most doctors are not tattoo friendly nor knowagable about kinds of inks, etc.

Yup.

Do you happen to have red or yellow ink (or colors that have those colors in them) on your tattoo? It may be an ink allergy. They can spring up randomly, even years after you get the tattoo. They're pretty rare, but it does happen.

See a tattoo artist, and ask them about it. Then, I'd say see a doctor.

Definately go to a doctor, your body may be starting to reject the tat. Or you may just by chance have a rash in the same exact spot! Good Luck.

I think they messed it up. Mine does the same thing and I just want to get more work done over it.

I have a few and the one on my ankle used to do that. The outline of the rose would raise once and a while. It doesnt do it anymore.
