Has anyone else noticed the similarities between Christian fundamentalism and Islamic fundamentalism?
1. Both claim to have 100% of the truth.
2. Both claim that everyone else is wrong and going to hell.
3. Both can and do lead to violence.
4.Both use a literalistic interpretation of their chosen scripture, which they claim is 100% infallible, and that all other scriptures are useless and evil.
5. Both are on the rise.
As far as I'm concerned, they're two sides of the same coin!

carson, you obviously haven't read my question. I am blaming violence on FUNDAMENTALISM. Did you notice that FUNDAMENTALISM was the theme of my question, not Christianity? obviously not.

Actually, I think you have the situation somewhat backwards, and not all of your facts are straight. I am not insulting you, just making an observation, which I will demonstrate.
First, by your own definition:
" 4.Both use a literalistic interpretation of their chosen scripture, which they claim is 100% infallible, and that all other scriptures are useless and evil."
For Islam, I cannot speak, as my knowledge is limited, but it seems amazing that the fundamentalists Islams here are posting against terror and violence, claiming it is against their religion.
For fundamentalist Christians, there is no excuse, as nowhere IN the NT scriptures are christians allowed hate or violence against others either physically OR verbally. In the OT scriptures, there is only very limited and specific allowances for anything either, as it was God who said "Vengance is mine, says Yahweh".
A literalist interpretation con ONLY lead to the abhorrance of the very traits you speak. God, Christ, and every Apostle speak out against such things through scripture. It is ONLY through "loose" interpretation can a person self-justify acts of violence of any kind whatsoever. We have LITERALLY been commanded to love those who hate us, not to strike back if struck, not to answer reviling (insult) with reviling, to blees those who hate, curse, and depitefully use us, etc. etc.
Anyone NOT doing these things has no rock to stand on, when claiming to be a fundamentalist (let alone a christian), and is in fact building upon sand.
I will answer the rest of your points now, concerning fundamentalist christians.
"1. Both claim to have 100% of the truth."
Anyone claiming this has no basis in scripture upon which they speak. Therefore, are not fundamentalist.
"2. Both claim that everyone else is wrong and going to hell."
I am a fundamentalist by definition, and know better than this doctrine. It assumes that God is not going to call any of these, which is not for any man to say. If they speak this of ONE whom has the holy spirit, scripture states that they have committed the unpardonable sin.
"3. Both can and do lead to violence. "
As stated before, anyone committing violence cannot truthfully claim to be fundamentalist.
"5. Both are on the rise. "
This is true. However, true fundamentalists are on the rise as well as those just claiming the term. If you were to read my answers given to others, you would note that I am a bible believing fundamentalist. However, you will also note that you will not find hate in any of my answers, anywhere.
Please do not judge the whole barrel, based upon the highly voiced "rotten apples". Truthfully spoken, they give Christ a black eye before the unbelievers whenever they speak hatred, as they show their own carnal nature, and not christ.
Paul

Radical religious fundamentalism will be the downfall of civilization.
Nothing can be proven. The books they claim speak the truth are different and have been revised and edited countless times throughout history, and followers are drawn to those who practice more and more hardcore because such dedication MUST be the key to living in god's favor, right?
I'm SO with you on this one.
Why can't people just accept that we are given one shot at life, and that is all there is? If they embraced this truth, there would be a much greater effort to make life on earth better. Instead, people spend their entire existence preparing for an eternal afterlife they cannot even prove exists.
It's sad...but true. Our lives are no more eternal than any other animal on the planet. We should embrace what we know we have and just make the best of it. Instead, radical fundamentalists are ending up running countries, and amazingly, we're going to war over things no one can ever prove.
Go figure!

You're going to get a whole lot of christians going "Christians never did anything like Islamic/Muslim/terrorists did! Like omg! How dare you suggest that christians once mauraded and raped and murdered and tortured innocent people! When ever in the history of the WORLD has that happened?"
... I'm quite certain that if the crusaders of the middle ages had had bombs to blow things up with, they would have used them. Except at that time I believe the tides were turned. Islamic believed that Christians were the terrorists, waging war on the islamic and all those unchristian folk for the sole reason that they did not believe in the same religion.
Crusaders stole land, murdered, raped, pillaged, tortured and bannished folk at a whim and however they pleased. There is very little difference between them and those 'terrorists' of today besides the technology and the colour of their skins.

1. Then Atheists are very much like fundamentalists.
2. Same
3. Any ideology can lead to violence.
.... Fundamentalism between Christianity and Islam is very different. A fundamentalist follows the traditional principles of a religion, so Christian fundamentalists do exactly what Christ commands. Did he not preach love, compassion, and forgiveness? Someone who follows Christ, a fundamentalist, would have those qualities. A Christian fundamentalist is a very good thing. That is the difference between Christian and Islamic fundamentalists.

...What planet do you live on? If Christianity leads to violence as you claim, perhaps you can tell me where Christian violence is occurring today.
...Where are Christians decapitating people and send suicide bombers into the public square? You know very well this is not occurring, and true Christians seek to avoid violence. So what about the violence you mention? Come back to Earth, sir. Get back to reality.

Yes.
Fundamentalism is fundamentalism. The only thing that changes is the terminology.
Just look at this "pissdownsatansback" freak, who seems to think that Christianity is all about being as hostile, vicious and bigoted as possible, and then accounting those qualities to righteousness. I wonder if he came up with his name by asking "WWJD?"

Addendum: "no..count them ZERO christians set off bombs on their backs and blow up little kids or people a night club or resort having lunch!"
No. Xtians lean more toward pipe and car bombs and shootings. Suicide is not their style.
