Good question. I live 1 mile from the beach so I know what to take. I would take some boogie boards, an inflatable pool big enough for all 3 of you (what you do it you inflate it and put it in the ocean, it is so much fun!), water (dont want to get dehydrated), spf 50 sunscreen (you'll need it since you'll be there all day), 3 towels (maybe 6, so you can use some to sit on and some to dry off with in the car), sunglasses, snacks, hat, goggles, a good beach read, a volleyball, some beach rackets!

HAVE FUN!

How far is it and what you driving? I would take swimming stuff, beach chairs, umbrella, sun screen, food and drink, blanket, towels, hat, sunglasses, surf or boggy board, radio, sand toys if the 12 year old likes to make sand castles.
Have fun:)
