Here's my opinion.
I am so glad that this is fianlly happening. If you're smoking when you're alone, I really don't care, If you smoke in a public place, you're kinda sad.
Say you have a cancer stick in a public toilet - everyone who then goes in that public toilet, breaths in all the cancer smoke that's been wafting around in your mouth and lungs.
It's pretty damn selfish to smoke where others are - especially if the others around you are children.
Smokers affect other peoples health like that just so you can drug have a ciggy.
That is, however, just my opinion. What do you think of the smoking ban?

As a non smoker(gave up over 20 years ago)I think the ban is great, although I do have great sympathy for the smoker, I hope it will encourage more of them to quit ,however we shouldn't forget just how difficult this is, after all it is an addiction, just like illegal drugs.
I agree with you that smoking is pretty disgusting and smelly and we all know its a disaster for your health and everybody else's. Count yourself lucky that you were strong enough to withstand peer pressure for others its not so easy.
Last but not least remember who is implementing this ban "The Government" who is still very happy to take the taxes from the smoker (huge taxes I might add).

Lets look at the big picture here! They say they have done this whole smoking ban because of the insurance companies. They say that smoking causes cancer but whose to say that its not the other chemicals this country has used on its crops and fields which let me remind you is where we get our food from. I personally know people who have never smoke or grew up around smokers who have lung cancer. 2 of these people lived on farms. If this country is going to have a smoking ban because its not good for you then you have to wonder what other things they will take away because the insurance companies say its bad for you. Lets look at red meat for an example.......red meat isn't that good for you and can cause heart problems. So is our government going to say you can't have steak because its bad for you!?! America is supposed to be a free country but if you really think about it is it really free anymore? I'm a non smoker but I believe in freedom which is something that we are losing more and more. I also believe if some one wants to have a cigarette they should have the freedom to have one! I think the whole thing is ridiculous and I think the way its set up by having each other tell on one another is stupid! What are we all in the 2nd grade? Let me leave you with one last thought, this is how Hitler controlled his people by having children rat out their parents. Maybe its worked out for the best for the nonsmokers who have a problem but maybe they should be worried about what freedoms are going to lose next.

As a New Yorker where the smoking ban is in effect in restaurants ... I LOVE IT. I'm hugely asthmatic (turned asthmatic as an adult from chemicals in the workplace) as are many others and am allergic to smoke. It could almost be considered part of an accessibility option. Some may think that is pushing it -- but when it affects my breathing and airspace .... I think my right to breath healthy air trumps a person's right to smoke. Much like industry is being led to a clean air act .... this is just another leg to it. Just my opinion :)

Yes you are right. But it,s been around for over 200 years. Far more smokers have had respiratory diseases than passive smokers. The fact that there is no smoking will not mean an end to lung cancer. There are lots of reasons o ther than smoking.I am not a smoker by the way.Life will be a bit more pleassant without smoke around us in restaurants etc. But you cannot blame smokers for all the ills of the world.

Personally I like the smoking ban. I'm a non smoker and I hate smelling smoke while I'm trying to eat dinner. I juat happen to be married to a smoker, but he refuses to smoke in our home or in our cars. He set the rule that no one smokes in our home. Its just how he feels. He doesn't think its fair to make me or our kids have that smell around us constantly. He never wants to sit in the smoking section while we are out to dinner, even if its just the two of us. He doesn't want to be around smokers while he is eating either. His mom on the other hand will NOT sit in the non smoking section (even when our children are around) and she will light up as soon as she is finished eating, even if others are still eating. Her boyfriend who just quit smoking, used to smoke while he was eating, which made my hubby and I want to puke! I think that smoking should be allowed in bars where there are no children around. But I don't think it should be allowed in bars that are at restaurants. That is just my opinion and I know that people want to smoke, and its cool with me if ya do. It seriously doesn't bother me. I'm just sick of smokers complaining that non smokers don't respect them and that they have the right to smoke where ever they want to. But on the other hand aren't the smokers being disrespectful of non smokers? My mother in law has told me "I don't care if you don't smoke, I have the right to do this where ever I want. I'm 40 something and no one can tell me when and where I can and can't smoke!" Thats fine, but don't just think about you, think about everyone else. This is just my opinion. I don't speak for everyone, I don't want to speak for anyone but myself. Have a great day everyone!

im a smoker, and i almost agree with u. when we could smoke at a restaurant, i would sit in non-smoking section. the smell of smoke while i eat makes me lose my appetite. if im at home, and someone is eating, i wont smoke.
but, when at a bar, i know a lot of non-smokers who smoke when they drink. the next day they complain about smoking. i dont get it? a lot of people who voted for the law smoke from time to time, mostly when drunk. so why not allow smoking at the bars, not restaurants, just bars. i can get by with goin outside for now, but when i see a non-smoker outside choking down a smoke, that irritates me.
i dont understand why im "sad" if i smoke in public? its my choice.

You`re right.About time something was done about it.They have a right to commit suicide, but none at all to kill anyone else. There`s some idiot around here who doesn`t even care about babies and pregnant women.Even after he was warned he continued.Yet he coughs like he`ll die any minute! He`s pathetic really.

Personally, I'm thrilled to bits about the ban. I used to work in a pub and used to get so sick of people blowing their foul smoke in my face while I served them with their drinks. I also lost my Dad to cancer so I'm completely anti smoking anyway.
I know it's the individual's right to choose etc, but why should I have my health put at risk, I've got a young child and I want to see her grow up too!

ok, i'm glad that there's a ban on smoking...but it's not as great as the gov. thought it would be....the ban is actually HURTING ppl's businesses. because smokers become so addicted, they can't go like 5 minutes without one. so thhe smokers don't even bother going to places where smoking is banned (which is businesses in certain states) b/c of the ban. My parents own a bar so they have had the biggest affect of it.. and it's sad. :(
