Hi again-Kitten Queen---I had a gorgeous black cat (long hair) that I named Shadow---THAT was because he'd never leave my side. Another good one might be (for male or female) "Pepper"---my son has a black lab named Pepper. Most of the time, I'll try to name my kittens/cats by a "something" in their personality rather than the color of the creature. Also noticed in this response, there are a LOT of "Shadow's" and a couple of "Pepper's". Oh, hey--if it's a female--what about "Cleo" or for a male "Charlie". I have to agree with this one girl (I think) in here who said "Why name a black kitten something dark and spooky?"--I wouldn't either! You've got a while to give this some thought so, just watch him/her (and you won't know until they are up, eyes open, and they are running around being cute----and, YES, that's the job for kittens---to be as CUTE as POSSIBLE!). If I come up with any other names I can think of---and I think YOU will do a fine job in choosing--I will get back to you on this. Have a GREAT day.

I have an all black kitten as well. I was throwing names out there like Smokey, Midnight, Stormy and otherst that go with him being black. I got no response from him at all. I then asked him if his name was Cupid and he meowed at me and put his belly in the air. I knew that Cupid was his name. He fits it to a tee, he is such a mommy's boy and loves to cuddle. My advise is to watch to see what the kittens personality is like that way you will come up with the perfect name for him/her.

Since your cat won't actually come when you call it anyway, whats the difference?
However, to be polite, here are some suggestions....
Shadow
Fooze
Ebony
Midnight
Night
Knight (as in Black Knight)
Grim (as in Grim Reaper)
Cloak
Eight or 8 (as in eight ball in billards)
Sheep (as in Black Sheep)
Ink or Inky
or you could choose a word meaning Black (or any of the above) in a foreign language of your choice.

Sam ... if it's a girl or a boy, Sam is a good name for a black cat ... I've had two 'Sam's in my life, both were all black, and both were GREAT cats!
