If it is so easy to discount and disbelieve in other peoples' gods, why is it so hard for so many theists to take that one final step towards complete atheism?

Look at the questions they ask atheists for your answer. Strange as it is, they TRULY believe that without their fairy tale they would have no morals, no ability to love and nothing to live for. Scary prospect.

The aren't. Check your Old Testament. The gods of Egypt, Ba'al, and a few others were real and had real power.
A fundie will explain this by saying that these were either fallen angels or powered by fallen angels.

B/C then their "beliefs" that caused them to cast doubt on everyone else would be null-in-void and they would have no rhyme or reason in life.
