for reasons known only to Him doesn't give us what we want we automatically assume God doesn't answer prayer? My 5 year old thru a fit the other day because I wouldn't let him play in the street should I have let him? Why are we so childish and spoiled that we can't accept NO sometimes?

The way I understand it is that
1) God answers any prayer that is in line with His will (according to Scripture),
2) He answers prayer in His perfect timing, and
3) that not all His answered prayers get noticed because He was not given the glory for that Miracle.

Good question. God bless.

Because we are human. We want answers and we want them now. We have trouble understanding the "time" God places on answering our prayers. Personally, I believe God answers every prayer- Yes, No, or Not Now. Sometimes we don't want to believe that God will tell us no because He loves us (why shouldn't we get what we want) and we think we know what is better for us than He does. When we don't get the answer we want, we pout just like your 5 year old. BTW, no you shouldn't have let him play in the street.

Excellent point. I sometimes feel hurt when God doesn't give me what I want---like He doesn't think I'm good enough to deserve it. But then I look back and see some of the things I've asked for and the mess I would have been in if He had let me have my way. Sometimes I think we should all sit down and thank God specifically for the word "no." He always has a plan, and I have to remind myself of that in the hard times.

LOL.

point is, you have no proof prayer works when the ONLY time prayer is answered is when it could have occured naturally. has nothing to do with getting what we want, it has to do with proving prayer is pointless.

u pray for amputees to regrow limbs, 100% of the time they dont. u pray that you recover from a common cold, and you do... so do the other million people who DONT pray.

btw the issue with ur child is completely different. if your child was dying and he asked you to help him recover, would you deny him? and why? god denies people in that circumstance. *shrug*

I was moved awhile back by the spirit to write a bible study over this very topic. I will post some of it here, as it answers this very question. I think it is interesting, as I am to give this very study to my church group this weekend! :)

****************
It is scripturally said that we do not know what to pray for.
(Rom 8:26) This is demonstrated through a commonly accepted doctrine. We have either been taught, or have heard the doctrine of "Name it and claim it". This doctrine, based somewhat upon the words of Christ (Mat 21:22, Mar 11:24, John 16:24), ignores what we are to ask for, how to ask for it, and why we should ask for it.

What is Proper To Ask For, and Why?

Pray for your enemies. (Mat 5:44) Pray for more christians to be converted. (Mat 9:38) Pray that you do not enter into temptation.
(Mat 26:41) Pray to be counted as worthy, and to stand before the son of man. (Luk 21:36) Pray for your brethren. (Jam 5:16) If you see your brother sin a sin not unto death , pray for them. (1John 5:16) Pray for wisdom. (Jam 1:5) Ask for spiritual gifts. (1Cor 12:31, 1Cor 14:1, 1Cor 14:13)

Do you see a trend here? If not, you should, as everything we are directly told to pray for, is spiritual in nature, and generally aimed at others more than for ourselves. These things directly affect our salvation, or anothers. They also assist us to do god's will.

This is but a partial posting of the study, which I have available online for any to read.

In my own estimation, since it is online anyway, it would be spamming to post the whole thing here. Click on this link to read the whole paper, which discusses the various aspects of prayer, as shown by scripture. It will take you directly to the paper, which I have stored in Yahoo Groups.

The paper answers 1. what we are to ask for and why, and 2. what is improper to ask for, and why. I hope everyone interested enjoys it, and you can read any of my studies whithout having to join the group.

it's not that god does not answer prayers. it's that god does not exist. you'd have the same luck praying to a pair of gym socks.

"Not my will but Thine be done" is the prayer that needs to end all prayer requests.

I agree totally. God will answer your prayers, but only if they are resonable (no stupid things I mean). Sometimes you have to wait for them to unfold! But God does listen to you.
