I am going to Punta Cana in October. This is my first time out of the USA and I am a little nervous.. I have read where you shouldnt bring very much and others say it is better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. I am the type that pack half my wardrobe to go away for a weekend. I would do the same here, but there are limits on the weight of the suitcases and how many you can bring without paying a huge amount extra. So anyone with any help on what is the most improtant and what is ok to leave would be great.. Thank you..

Kenya,
Here's what I suggest:
1. Only take tiny bottles of shampoo and lotions for the departure. Anyway, don't take large bottles or tubes of anything. They have intersting lotions, soaps, and oils you can get if you run out.
2. 1 pair flip flops, 1 pair nicer sandals, and your favorite strolling shoes.
3. 1 or 2 swimsuits, some loose, lightweight buttonup shirts or sundresses, about 3-5 pairs of shorts and 1 or 2 pairs of lightweight slacks.
4. An umbrella and lightweight waterproof rainjacket!!!!!!!!!
5. A hat with a brim that can be a sunhat or rainhat.
6. Sunglasses, glasses, medications, passport, id, tickets, phonebook, etc....
7. You can just change money when you arrive at the PC airport, either go to a bank window in the airport or an ATM.
8. Don't bother with the hair dryer, most hotels will have one.
9. I like to pack old underwear and socks on their last round and throw them away after I wear them. Some markets down there have really cool socks, shorts, undies, bikinis, soccer shirts, all kinds of tropical shirts like Guayabera. It's time to clean out the draws anyway.
10. A snorkle and fins would be nice, cheaper here than there probably . And take a lightweight bag, an empty one, so you can fill it up with souvenirs.
11. Good idea if you go into towns:
If you're nervous about carrying money, I like to wear running shorts with those small money pouches inside, and I wear those as underwear under another pair of shorts. Cargo shorts with hidden pockets are a GREAT idea. Hide your big money in an inner pocket and have smaller bills in your other pockets. divide it up,not all in one pocket. Don't walk around a crowded market with a bulky purse and take out your 5" thick billfold and falsh all your cards,
but I'm thinking Santo Domingo, so you might stay right around the resort and not have to worry about that.

Have Fun!

I went last summer for a week...took a big full suitcase.....but only wore less than half the stuff. Everything is VERY informal...I spent most of each day at the beach....so u will need bathing suit, maybe 2 of them, couple of shorts, a skirt, some tops, a sundress maybe, and tanning lotion!!! Don't forget the sunglasses and a good book!
