Naturally, you would use the "tip" side of the cue (the side with the tip.)
If your question relates to HOW the cue ball is hit: Depending upon the action you want; Striking in the middle of the cueball usually results in a steady-strike onto the object ball.

Striking the cueball either left or right of center puts what is called "ENGLISH" on the cueball. How much "English" that is applied reveals the result on the object ball.

Striking the cueball LOWER of center usually helps to STOP the cueball from continually rolling once the object ball has been hit. Again with reference to how much English you put on the ball.

I usually try to hit it with the pool stick, but sometimes they get angry when the cloth comes up with it.
Sheeesh whats the big deal..I mean..why don't they make it in metal instead of cloth?

UUMMmm.now..which one exactly is the cue ball and what does it look like? What? Lonestar uses the skinny part of the stick? Isn't that considered a foul play?

hey, if you're talking about yahoo! pool, you use the right click on your mouse, holding it down, then when you're ready to shoot, you let go...if you're talking about regular pool, make sure your feet are both planted on the floor, stroking the stick steadily (not "choking" the end), and follow through with a straight shot..the key is the grip on the front of the cue, your grip in the back of the cue (not holding it too hard) and your stroke..following through after you make your shot, keeping the cue down...and stay down after your shot.......don't "poke" your shot..practice, practice, practice!! :)

It depends on the ball you want to hit & where it is. If it's to the left, you hit it a little to the right of the center, opposite for the right. If you want it to stop, you hit it low. If you want it to keep rolling, you hit it high.....there's more. You want to set up your next shot.
