People think it's ridiculous that I spent $260 on my veil but I have no clue how much it's supposed to cost. Funny thing is my dress cost a little over $400. Here is it...so tell me is it crazy to spend so much on the veil when the dress is not too far from that price.

Beautiful, lovely dress. But, hun, you spent way too much on the veil. I made my own. You can get the veiling from the fabric stores or off the internet. There's all kinds of cheap veils in the internet - I think Target is selling them now. But, I think you know that when you posted - any way you can get your money back?

I spent $16 on mine. I bought the tulle, a comb, and three yards of (fake) miniature pearls on a string. I stitched the pearls around the edge of the tulle with a knot stitch. I bunched up the tulle at about 3/4 of the length, and stitched it onto the comb. It was exactly what I wanted!

Considering that the veil that "matched" my dress was going to cost $750, I just couldn't pay for something that was really so easy to make!

The veil shown in the link would be a bit more complicated and more time consuming, due to it's length. I would have a hard time justifying $260 for a veil that probably cost $20 in materials, but it's definitely not an unreasonable price, considering the other options.

Well, consider this...The Tulle fabirc doesn't cost that much. At the most it would be about $10 a yard. Assuming there are 3 yards used in making the veil. Plus another about $20 for the comb on the veil and the ribbon and little crystal beads...You pretty much got scammed.
The veil is the one part of the wedding attire that I have never managed to figure out. They are way overpriced. I gave you a rather generous example, but my friend made her veil, with tulle, lace and crystal beads for under $30. And it looked as good as a store bought one. You can buy kits or plain veils at a craft store and then sprice them up yourself. Or try to borrow a friends. I actually used my moms.

Paying $260 for a veil that is not that ornate or complex is pretty ridiculous. Sorry hun. Advice for other brides...if you or a close friend or family member don't sew, take it to a seamstress and she can do it for you!

my veil cost zero dollars, i did not have one. i had to take my glasses off and i could not see where i was going anyway.

when i went to david's bridal, they were quick to say OMG and this and this and this matches this dress and i started to get caught up in it too. The tiara that went with it cost like $125 bucks! Then my momma pulled me aside and was like no, you do not even know how to wear your hair yet. THANK GOODNESS FOR MOMMAS! I decided to have messy curls and only have hair clips in my hair that cost $11 at claires :P. So if you have not decided on your hair style yet, maybe you wait until you have.

the thing is, david's bridal is good at selling inexpensive dresses, but the other items are pretty expensive. are you sure you can not find a very similar veil at a different store for less? Shop around.

I think a lot of people will find that amount a little too much simply because they are not going to see it that much. most of the time you wear the dress the whole wedding, but the veil is only at the ceremony, when people can't see you all that well.

my personal belief is if you have the money, go for it. i just think you should shop around to make sure you are not getting ripped off.

I bought a designer dress for about $1000 (last years style) and tried on a few veils. The veils at the place i purchased my dress were around $200+. I took down the style and maker and went online and bought a very similar one ebay for $25 + $15 for the tiara. When you buy manufacturer direct you can save money. Retail shops have a huge huge huge mark-up! You may want to consider returning the veil and buying one online. You have time!

I'm a wedding planner and I have seen veils costing what you paid and even a couple that cost more. However, those were mostly cathedral and chapel length veils with embroidery and/or beading or swavorski crystals or pearls on them. I do think you paid a little too much for this one. This one I could see going for between $80-150. Maybe $200 at a high end store.. but no more than that. But... If it's the one you want, it's your wedding, who cares.

I only spent $65 on my veil and it is very pretty.

I see you bought both the dress and veil at David's Bridal. It may just be one of those things were the price of the dress is reasonable but they jack up the price of accessories like shoes, veils, etc in order to capture more profit.

All in all, less than $700 for your dress and veil is pretty darn good! Don't worry about what people say. If you can afford it, then that's all that matters! Congrat!

That is about the same price as mine. Its because it is not just a normal tulle that you can get from michaels. The fabric is a lot nicer and it has some shimmer in it. That is how mine is and my veil also has double sided sparkles allover. So if you are happy with what you got then go for it and wear it on your special day. Don't let anyone else tell you what to do. I saw the tulle and veils at michaels and no way would I wear it because it just doesn't flow nicely. So whatever makes you happy and feel like a princess.

Congratulations!!

Your dress and veil are beautiful. I was wondering how much my veil was and when I checked the receipt from 10 years ago it was 750.00. (my parents paid, and it was an open budget) It seems like a lot, but I look at my wedding photo everyday and think of how incredible it all was. I could never make it myself, too much stress, and hassle, and I am very uncrafty. So, be happy with what you got, and feel special wearing it.

I spent $80 on mine. I tried on the same dress that you bought. I really liked it but decided on an ivory color instead of white. Anyway, mine was on sale, that's why it was only $80. Plus I didn't get a real long one. Mine was very simple. It had pearls on the veil. I loved it!
It's all about what you're wanting to spend. After all it's YOUR wedding! I mean don't be a bridezilla or anything...but you know what you want and just be sure your happy!
Congrats!
