they say things like 'the bible has been proved true and is the word of god'

It hasn't! No one has ever proved who wrote the gospels and there are no eyewitness accounts that there ever was a Jesus-the nearest to them are in those gospels which at points are absolutely contradictory!! The whole thing is based on hearsay and secondary sources, then written by advocates of the christian faith!! Isn't it a sin to tell lies?

Cognitive dissonance ...

A Christian will never find a problem with the Bible, a Muslim will never see an error in the Quran, etc...Their minds simply refuse to...

Maybe a better question is why does anyone tell lies? Christians do not have a monopoly on lying.

For you to state that 'no one has ever proved' has only served the purpose of faith - the belief in what is unseen, and assurance of things hoped for.

There is nothing you can state that will make anything more true or false.

Contradictory statements on different accoounts are enitrely possible if those who wrote them were unable to reference their writings with other writers, leaving their own revelations and determinations as the sole conclusion.

Go further - is evolution true? There is evidence supporting much of the thinking. But, evolution can't be proven as ultimately true. Creationism has merits in identifying a beginning, and even some form of where things come from - does not state that things don't evolve (as science claims). Neither can be proven true or false. Maybe they are one and the same???? What a contradiction of the polarizing arguments

For you tell conclude that some is lying because of a belief one has in something you can't ultimately disprove is too much of a judgment on your part.

You may not agree with them. But, until you can refute your line of thinking with 100% proof - you can't even say that they are really lying.

Hello,

Who can say rumors and hearsay are always false just because they are rumors and hearsay? As an analogy I heard only rumors and hearsay from secondary sources about trouble at work and big layoffs coming and we all laughed, ah rumors and hearsay! When we all had to sell or lose our homes, relocate after the crash came we laughed no more.

The main difference between Christianity and Ancient Indian Wisdom is their assertion of who and what constitutes Reality. Christianity's entire basis revolves around their belief that Christ is Lord, and the only way to the Lord. Indian Wisdom, found in the Upanishads, Baghavad Gita, and early forms of Buddhism, state their conviction that "Atman equals Brahman," that atman, being the smallest essence of a human being, is equal to Brahman, the absolute, highest essence of reality. So in other words, an Indian mystic would say "your soul is reality," to anyone interested in hearing the truth (1).
Now, turn back to Christianity which posists Christ as the only Lord of Reality. If the ancient mystics adopted this belief, they would essentially declare that "your soul is not reality," but "jesus's soul is reality." So in other words, my atman, your atman, and everyone elses atman is not Brahman, but, of course, Jesus's atman is brahman. This is not only highly erroneous and dangerously egoitistical, but a slap in the face to anyone who believes and follows in the truth. Not only will Christians never find the God outside of themselves, but they will never look for Him inside of themselves, because their church tells them not to. Will Christians change this doctrine of theirs, or are they too terrified of the truth? Regardless, the fact remains that Jesus Christ is not just the Lord, but he is actually you. You are that same essence. Meditate on this and you will realize it yourself. No need for my words to tell you so.

Because they're weak, and to tell the truth would mean admitting their entire lives are based on a badly-written and repugnant fairy tale.

They lie because the truth hurts.

The irony is, they're the ones most likely to say "the truth will set you free."

Christians tell lies for the same reasons anyone else tells lies, to gain something, to conceal something, to appear to be something one is not, or to disguise something one is.

Why do you tell lies?
