I think most people do, not purposely, though. i.e. many would say an English accent in the US means they are intelligent. Many from the north of the US think those with southern accents are hicks. French accents mean you are sexy and romantic. Italian Americans are mobsters, etc. It's wrong to judge, but I think it's subconcious most of the time and depends on where one was raised.

No I learned not to do that when I moved from Cleveland, Ohio to Bardstown Kentucky. Just because the accent is alittle lazy doesn't mean the people are.

My accent is alot like the mid western accent, though I have picked up quite a bit of southern slang over the last past 12 years, yall. :)

only if its a FAKE accent!

i've actually been on the receiving end of such treatment ... i'm indian, grew up abroad, and now, my accent is - well unaccented, it not indian, has a bit of a british tinge, and a couple of words sound american ... anyway, its definitely not a traditional indian accent! i've been judged by people, a LOT. for some reason, they think i'm snobbish (it doesnt help that im a bit of an introvert!) and haughty and cold ... other people think its fake and a way of getting attention! it really sucks ... but at least i know none of my friends are judgemental :)

I would not form an opinion based on an accent, but 'sloppy' speech, eg missing the 'T' out of words is really irritating to listen to. It might put me off having a long conversation with them.

When I hear someone from the six speak, I do not need to form an opinion because I know immediately where they are from and a few other crucial things.

I've a Derry accent.

No I don't judge someone because of the accent that they have. I'm from Yorkshire but I wouldn't say that I have a bold Yorkshire accent I think that my accent is normal but I bet alot of people think that as they're used to it

Yes I do!! Because depending on where their from the cultures and religions differ! People from different parts of the world have different ways of looking at the world around them! So depending on their accent you can usually understand where and what they are talking about! If you know what I mean! But everybody is different!

Yes, i think ones accent is part of what makes them...them :)

My husband has a mexican accent, and it was the first thing that attracted me to him.

But if anyone jugdes someone in a bad way that is stupid, because everyone has an accent to someone else.... If you think that someone has a british accent for example, really you have an american accent to them. :)

I try not to form opinions on people but it is in human nature to judge.

I've been told that I have an accent but I don't know what it would be. Upstate NY isn't really classified as anything.

I don't know.....yeah probably. When you first meet someone, you automatically start forming an impression of them, and the way they speak is a big part of that. I love most accents, though. Mine is boring! American with a slight southern twang.
