I got a barb-wire band about 10 years ago, now everyone has them. Any ideas on a good cover-up?

This is something I would definitely advise you to bring to a talented tattoo artist. We generally do half sleeves on these to get off the whole arm band concept - it really looks a lot better.
The more you put into "banding" the harder it will be to do a cover piece.
It sounds to me you would do well with the half sleeve.

not only does everybody have them... but they also want to have them covered up.
the first thing you should do is research artists, find one who is good at doing coverup tattoos. i have a friend who got an armband covered up with a panda sitting on a tree branch and it looks amazing. artist choice is the most important thing you can pick.
the artist will be the best person to help you find a design that is right for you. there are a lot of options out there since usually barbed wire tattoos aren't very wide, you won't have to have a lot of black in there to cover it up.
what interests you? what things in your life are important enough to get tattooed on you permanently (your second chance to do this the right way, no more fads!!!)

You could try a tribal of some sort but I recommend just stopping in a tattoo shop so the artist can see it, and he will help you figure out a good cover up.

your best bet is to have the artist free hand something. That way you know you'll have something original. Just go in with a basic idea. I'm personally a big fan of aztec inspired designs.

Damn near any other kind of armband could cover it up, maybe something bolder like tribal. Or maybe you could add to it, have some color put in it, or just consult your artist, they could give you some custom ideas.

-=--put a knife over it--- like seriously my friend got her ex boyfriend name on her wrist and when they broke up she put a knife over it... i think its hot...but that also depends on how big the tat is...
