The most important controversy for children to be taught at school is between the tooth fairy and the FSM. They should get the hint that the FSM is the real deal and the tooth fairy is nothing but a toothless wannabe. The phrase "teach the controversy" is a pathetic sound byte by not-so-smarts.

Should evolution be taught along side creationism?

To be fair though, Creationism, I think, is taught in every fairy tale and fable we read to our children and therefore is taught before school.

Legally speaking it would have to be a voluntary course, as psychology is a volunary course, because astrology is considered a religious subject and therefore cannot be forced upon students in any school

No. But evolution and homosexuality being ok and normal should be forced down their throats.....oh yeah, that's already happening.
