They say it's for reproduction reasons, we're mammals, instincts and whatnot.
If it's for reproducing, why do we use protection then?

You should know that the older one becomes, the less interest they have in sex. Male interest peaks at about 18 years and slowly declines with age. Female interest slowly increases until about the mid-thirties and then slowly declines. Both sexes experience a sort of "menopause," after which, interest in reproductive issues is essentially academic. One of life's greatest injustices is that modern civilization expects young people in their reproductive prime to abstain while they get their educations. Then comes starting a career, finding a spouse, and buying a house. By the time a person has fulfilled all of society's expectations, they are long past their reproductive peak, have difficulties achieving pregnancy, and are more likely to bear defective offspring. People who mistakenly imagine human beings are not animals have created a rigid social agenda designed to undermine the satisfaction and genuine happiness which comes from satisfying our instinctive mammalian urges. All the best things in life are not only free, they're instinctive social behaviors.

Humans and dolphins are the only animals, known animals, to have sexual intercourse for the sake of pleasure. If you believe in evolution then it is easily said that we think about sex because of reproduction, sex usually means reproduction. But in today's society it is up the the woman and the man when they want to have a baby (more so for the woman as we're the ones carrying it for nine months) so many choose to use "protection" like the condom with the birth control pill to get a better chance of not having a baby.

HOWEVER. The human race today does not use protection simply as a birth control method. They use it to protect themselves, and others, from Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

As always though, I must say, that the best protectiong and the best birth control method is abstinance.

Because we are programmed that way, just like any other animal, for reproduction purpose. We use protection, for population control and to avoid STDs.

Because it is not just for reproduction. People have sex for pleasure and/or to feel closer to the person.

simply because sex feels good and people want to have sex without the burden of a child everytime they want to do it. another reason is so people dont get STD's.
