but he has recently found his real dad and would like to change back to his birth name, does anyone know if we have to go back through a solicitor or can we just rip the original up and go back to using his birth certificate? please help

He will unfortunatley have to do it legally.The solicitors fee will be around £35-£40 as he has been known by his step fathers surname it will be on all of his government related data and he would then take on the identity of two people if he were to just start using his old one again.Some solicitors charge more so shop around before going ahead with it!
He will also need to inform the national insurance dept,tax office and doctors etc.I knew somebody who went through this process and all authorities need informed aswell as its not the same as a woman taking on her married name.

I would think you would have to go to a solicitor, and go to court. Try checking for information on the net.

you have to go back to court to make it legal
