You really need antibiotics for an ear infection. If not treated, it can result in deafness.
I also want to add that ear infections are extremely painful for your dog. Don't make him suffer needlessly.

Olive oil. Using an eye dropper, put 3-4 drops into each ear once a day for a week or two. Wipe the ears out with a cotton ball or tissue before the next treatment. The ears should be noticeably better within a week. If it is not any better, you may need to just pick up some ear cleaner at a pet store or vet and clean them out every other day for a week.
By the way, there is no need to take your dog to the vet because of dirty ears. Asking for a home remedy do not mean you can not care financially care for an animal. Usually dogs only get minor ear infections and can be treated at home. No need to spend money for the vet to do basically the same ear cleaning. Good luck with you dog

I won't yell at you for not taking your dog to the vet, because I don't always take mine either. There are a lot of things you can do at home to help them. First of all, give him/her some ibuprofen to reduce any irritation. Usually, if you have a small dog, I'd stick to half a pill, but otherwise a full pill is ok.
If the ear wax is dark brown or black, the infection is being caused by yeast. There are a couple ways to treat it, but the best is to use an anti-yeast cream. Buy a tube of monistat or similar at the drugstore, and put some on a q-tip, spread around the ear. You need to get it down in there, but not too deep - it should be pretty easy to figure out. Keep an eye on it, do that once or twice a day, and it should clear up in 3 or 4 days. Be warned though, my dog hated it, so you might have to fight them.
Another option is to make a solution of alcohol and water. You should use about 3 parts water, 1 part alcohol. You can spritz it in the ear, but I found that soaking a cotton ball worked a lot better. Do that as often as you need to to get the fluid/wax out, but if the skin gets irritated, use some neosporin too.
The biggest thing you need to remember is to make sure the ear stays DRY. So, be especially vigilant about keeping it dry after baths, rain, and cleanings. Water makes the infection worse.
Also, if you have any human antibiotics, such as amoxocillan, you can give the dog about a quarter of the pill (again, for a large dog - not sure about toys). I wouldn't do that until you've exhausted everything else.
Good luck - and if it persists after a week or two, check with the vet.

DO NOT SELF MEDICATE!!!!!!
People DO NOT prescribe treatments when you have absolutely NO clue exactly what type of infection this dog has nor even if it is an infection and not some other type of problem!!!
The dog needs to have his ears checked by a vet and a proper diagnosis and treatment made.
I see so many pets needlessly harmed by self medicating owners who go info from the "net"...do any of you come close to realizing the number of pets who have been seriously harmed and some even killed because someone took "home remedy" advice from people on the net and didn't seek proper medical advice???

I have a jackrussel terrior who always gets yeast infections in his ear.I use Four Paws anti itch ear wash and it works fine. You can get it at almost any pet store. As for home remedies you could try the same peroxide that you use for minor cuts and scrapes .My mom used it on me when i would get swimmers ear and it also worked on cleaning my dogs ears.Just pour a cap full into the ear and massage it then allow your dog to shake its head and dry with a cotton ball. If its an inner ear infection you will probably have to get drops or an antibiotic from your vet.

Put the name of a good vet in your dog's ear, then take them there.
If you cannot afford a vet, find a good home for the dog, you cannot afford it.
