.RAR files are compressed file archives. They need to be uncompressed (opened) with a program called WinRAR.

Very simple, dear. The RAR extension is for file archives.
This file was compressed, and must be first *Extracted*, then you'll be able to see what's inside.

Extraction really means uncompressing the file using a utility such as WinZip, which most often comes with Windows.

For the extraction, if you're using Windows, you can just right-click the file and select "Extract..." .

Hope this helps. If it doesn't work out for you, repost your question.

If it is jibberish then you are trying to open a binary file, such as a word document. Try using wordpad instead, or if you need an office suite, get open office.

Chances are the file is binary. Notepad will read it but, it does not know how to interpret the file. Notepad is used for reading text files not binary files.

If it's not a plain text file, in other words, if it's a word doc or another format then you can't use note pad to open it, try using word pad instead

Well, what kind of file are you trying to open? If it's not a .txt, or .doc file, or something that you know is a text file, it probably will show jibberish..
