You need an HD source. You have several for TV programming ... cable, satellite, over-the-air antenna and in some locations FiOS.

Also, if you want to watch HD movies (HD DVD or Blu-Ray DVD) then you will need the corresponding DVD player.

I agree with other forum members that recommend that prior to your purchasing an HD TV, you should look into how you are going to receive the broadcast signal: either by cable or satellite. Make sure of the connectivity aspect, especially what types of input plugs and devices are available so that when you purchase an HDTV it has the same compatible hookups and plugs.

Good luck!

You will need to order HD channels from your cable/satellite provider. When you buy the tv, especially if its at best buy or circuit city they will try and also sell you an hdmi cable for a $100 and probably some huge surge protector. I know if you order HD from comcast they will bring you compenent cables for free and you get a very good picture with that the hdmi cable is way overpriced for what you get. Same goes for the surge protector they will try and sell, you can get a good surge protector for under $20 instead of the $150 some places will try and sell you. All you need is the tv, your hd provider should take care of everything else.

You will need to get an HD receiver from your satellite company if you do not already have one. If you want to get over the air HD, you will need to get an antenna and point it to where the HD towers are for the broadcast channels.
