Longer life is the main reason to keep a cat inside. But there are others. Cats fight, eat things they shouldn't that may make them sick. They are exposed to disease. If they aren't fixed, they make babies. They are subject to being run over by cars. And there are those people who get pleasure from hurting animals that roam. Also they are exposed to fleas and ticks, which can cause worms and blood disease.

Inside cats have a diet they stick to. Less chance of disease. No unwanted kittens. Injuries are reduced, and no one can hurt them. No fights with unknown cats, Indoor cats live longer because they aren't exposed to all of the dangers of living outside. Most indoor cats are pampered, well fed, healthy. And if they are inside, you can tell when they are sick and take them to the vet. No fleas and ticks.

I hope this answer helped. I'd much rather have a healty indoor cat than one that roams and is never around. Growing up, I only had one cat that was allowed in the house. When she was about to have kittens, my dad relented and let her come in to have her kittens. When they were old enough to wean, all went outside. I had a herd of cats in Missouri when we lived on a farm. They were necessary to keep snakes and rats away. Since leaving Missouri, I've only had 3 cats, all inside cats. I'll never have another outside cat.

When a cat lives outside it is open to the world and anything can happen to it on the roads or out on the streets. Cats that have a home to live in tend to spend more of their time inside than outdoors which means their owners can keep a watch on them to make sure no harm is caused to the cat. Wild cats have nothing which will protect them when they are alone on the road but indoor cats are less likely to get hurt.

Cats who go outside enjoy a more natural way of life, they explore the outdoors and have fun playing, but they can also encounter more danger, from cars, from cruel people and from other animals.

Cats who live their whole live indoors don't miss what they never had, they play in a safe environment, but cats who live indoors will sometimes try to mark their territory if they are stressed, most pet owners aren't too happy with that. (enzyme cleaners are your friends!)

My cats were indoor-outdoor cats when I was young, the worry of what would happen to them was too great, now all my cats are indoor cats only. It is something for each owner to decide for themselves based on the environment they live in.

indoor cats don't really get that much flees than outside cats and don't get so dirty either. but indoor cats get fat and become lazy unlike outdoor cats. but outdoor cats can get into cat fights while indoor cats stay inside and be safe.

Outdoor cats are more likely to get fleas and stuff, get into fights, get hit by cars, and get bad temperment. Also, with an outdoor cat, your more likely to get a little mousey present.

Overall, indoor cats are better.

You basically answered your own question. Outdoor cats statistically die sooner than indoor cats. Diseases, wild animals, cars... it is kind of dumb to let your cat outside, unless it was an outside cat when you first got it.

My cats only go outside during the summer they hate winter and when they go out they get wormed and their monthly flea medication from the vet. I have to let them out or they cry and cry but it's nice in winter no worries. My son has two of my kittens from my cats litters and he doesn't let them outside ever they're used to it he has lots of toys for them and of course he has two because one is just to lonely. Good luck the choice is yours at this stage.
