I have a stye and I went to the eye doctor, but the doctor doesn't understand that baby shampoo doesn't clean my eyes out. I am going to another doctor for a second opinion in about a week, but are there ways that I can get rid of my stye, or at least stop the irration during this time period? Thanks so much.

Ok for starters, he or she told you to use baby shampoo for a reason. It's called blepharitis. (dandruff on the eye lashes) Start with a warm compress for a few minutes then take a small cup filled with warm water. Put a dab of baby shampoo in it and let it get sudsy. With your eyes closed take a qtip and brush them then rinse. It's "lid hygeine". This will help in preventing future styes. For the current one it will really help to do warm/hot compresses. No need for a second opinion. Save your money and trust the first doctor.

I got a sty in my teens for two days, and then it was gone. If it's something like that, I'd say wait it out. I never even went to the doctor.

But if it's more serious, I just read the other day about some drops you can buy called Similasan Stye Eye Relief. You might be able to pick it up at Walmart, or ask your doctor for it. In stubborn cases you may need to be treated with antibiotics.

Here are some tips to help get rid of it (home remedies) from http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/styes.htm :

Most styes heal within a few days on their own. You can encourage this process by applying hot compresses for 10 to 15 minutes, three or four times a day over the course of several days. This will relieve the pain and bring the stye to a head, much like a pimple. The stye ruptures and drains, then heals.

Never "pop" a stye like a pimple; allow it to rupture on its own. If you have frequent styes, your eye doctor may prescribe an antibiotic ointment to prevent a recurrence.

It's best not to mess with it since you got another appointment scheduled in about a week. Don't think about it or touch it b/c you might irritate it some more & it will get worse. I honestly think that the doctor advised you some kind of home remedy (baby shampoo) instead of a prescription, he thought it's not serious & using baby shampoo may help you get better. Maybe you should try it. While it might sound a bit strange to you, it might do you some good. Baby Shampoo has some ingredients that will help ease your stye, help make you comfortable & slow down the possible growth of an infection. No doctor would advise you anything false or untrue. Always follow any doctor's advice, they are the professionals & are the ones licensed in this type of field. GOOD LUCK!

a stye is a self limiting infection, it will go away on it's own. You can speed the process a little by applying moist warm compresses frequently through out the day, this will also serve to make you more comfortable.
