I don't understand why an outside smoke shelter can't be enclosed? Obviously everyone in there is smoking anyway and if a non smoker is in there it is their choice. But I think the fact that it is a SMOKING SHELTER would make it obvious that it may be a bit smokey??????????

Whats next banning people smoking in their own homes????????????????? STUPID SMOKING BAN

The public smoking ban has been effective here since January 1st, I too had reservations about it, but.................... I have to say Its not as bad as it sounds and you will soon get use to it.

It has also open new doors in the form of outside flirting ;-)

As for the smoking shelter, i believe the rules state that smoking shelters must have at least 75% of the walls Open.

To have a fully enclosed shelter then it would be a Room extension (therefore the Anti Smoking Act is Breached)

The Pubs & Clubs in our area have left it to the last minute
to erect a Shelter (foolishly believing there might be a cop-out clause)
There is no obligation to have a smoking area but its a foolish Manager who refuses to look after his customers.
We can expect a lot of resentment from everyone in the first few months.
Irelands Pubs had a big drop in sales and Part-time staff lost jobs in the first year.
But now its two years later and its nearly back to normal.
Believe it or not its the Smokers who enjoy a Smoke-free Bar and Restaurant.
Dont know how many people actually quit.

Well the law specifically says no smoking in enclosed areas so a smoking shelter must not be enclosed. as it has to be open to the air.The way things are going all the pressure is on smokers to give it up.If smoking was eliminated the cost to the NHS of dealing with smoking related illnesses would be reduced by as much as is collected in tax from the sale of cigarettes. This will be an on going thing until the powers that be have had their way. What will be the next thing to be banned. Either booze or betting.

Because people have actually sued their firms for giving them lung cancer through providing smoking rooms. The argument goes: "I only smoke 1 tab a day and the smoking room air was so full of smoke that I was effectively smoking 200 tabs a day through passive smoking and now I have lung cancer".
The Judge wakes up from his snooze, see's the company chairman in an Armani suit, thinks "he must have very deep pockets to wear such a nice suit and the poor woman says she can never work again". Verdict: Plaintiff must also be able to afford an Armani dress and matching handbag, whenever she goes shopping.

Smoking shelters can have only the 2 walls to ensure the swift and efficient removal of toxic substances through an efficient and regular change of the room's atmosphere, via ventilation to the outside air.
3 walls may allow a pocket of fumes to remain and be breathed in.

Thats a good point, i guess they'd say that it counts as a public place no matter what its use is. Nonsense really but hey, guess we're gonna have to get used to smoking in the rain ain't we!

no one forces you to smoke...if you don't like the conditions your society is enforcing on those who do smoke, I suggest you quit.
