If they are in the same cage, they've bonded to each other and it's very hard to get them to attach to you also. Try putting them in separate cages put right next to each other for a while. But put them back together if either of them starts to act lonely or plucking feathers or not eating. This will sometimes make them more easily trained. With the female, see if she'll even eat a treat out of your hand. If she does, try putting one finger by her feet and holding a treat in your other hand just out of reach and say "step up". When she decides that she wants the treat badly enough, she'll step up on your finger. Praise her a lot! soon she'll jump on your finger without needing a treat. With the male, whenever he flies on top of his cage, pick him up again and put him back on your finger. Give him praise and a treat. Soon he'll realize that it's a good thing to stay on your hand. I raised 2 cockateils [ brother and sister ]. Hand raised them that is, and they still nipped at me.
Don't Grab Them - is one thing. I never close the cage door they come in and out all by themselves. When they are on the top of the cage I put my finger under their tummy's and they climb on my finger and then put them on my shoulder and walk all over the house with them. When they get on the floor my dog herds them back to their cage.

But never Grab them - you scare them - they think you are trying to hurt them.

Since they have bonded the worst thing you could do now is seperate them - they will did of lonelyness - Keep them together and do what I mentioned above and they will start to bond to you also...

Consider the noise in your home. Maybe they need a little peace and quiet now and then. Also, try using a stick (1 foot long, 1/2 inch or so diameter) to pick them up. Let them come to the stick while using a soothing voice to coax them to hop on. After a while, they will get used to you picking them up and soon will be walking on your hand and shoulder too. Start slowly and try to win thier trust first.

Cockateils aren't like all the other birds that youv'e heard about or seen. They don't like to be held, and they don't like to be played with. The only way you could get them to like you is to get them out at least an hour every day and put them on your shoulder and if they fly away then you just need to hold them for a while. I'm sure that you'll find a way...but remember they're really hard to tame. Good Luck!

go and get yourself a book on cockatiel behaviour. always educate yourself before you get a pet! and ppl answering this are correct, when you put two birds in the same cage, even different species, they will bond to each other and have less to do with their human companions. seperating them into two cages might work, but be sure to look for signs of depression...feather plucking, not eating, etc. here is a good ebook you can order:

Don't grab them. They're birds. The most affection you'll get is them sitting on you.
