I've never used a curling iron, Do they damage hair? how r they supposed to b used? by rolling around strands

Get a Ceramic Curling iron, they cause less damage, any heat styling will cause some degree of damage. if you want spirals hold a section at an angle and start rolling from the ends once at the top hold it for a few seconds and let it go, if you just want a bump do the same thing just don't hold it at an angle.
