The following is from the website listed above:
>> Where to buy Best blender. The Oster Beehive has a 350-watt motor and a tapered, 40-ounce glass jar that's not only stain resistant, but also helps funnel food to the blades. In Good Housekeeping tests, the Beehive outperformed all other models. The Beehive has just two speeds, but owners don’t mind. They like the retro chrome base and solid construction, although some complain about noise. If you mainly want to puree soups and make smoothies, the Oster is a reliable, all-purpose home blender. • L'Equip R.P.M. 228
(*est. $135)
>> Where to buy Best blender for crushing ice. With its 900-watt motor, professional reviews and owners say the L'Equip R.P.M. is a fantastic ice crusher. Its 56-ounce polycarbonate pitcher is larger than most. The L'Equip can also grind coffee beans, seeds and nuts. A funnel cone allows you to add oils and flavorings while the blending is running, and a built-in tamper stick lets you push ingredients toward the blade. The L'Equip is loud, however. One owner calls the noise level "alarming." But if you want a mid-priced, versatile blender, reviews say the L'Equip is excellent. (compare prices)
• KitchenAid Pro Line Chef's Blender
(*est. $240)
>> Where to buy Commercial-quality blender.Unlike most of its competitors, the Pro Line receives uniformly high marks in owner-written reviews. It’s pricey, but with its 746-watt motor and 48-ounce polycarbonate jar, it surpasses many competitors in capacity, power and performance. Professional testers like its simple controls, and owners praise its step-start feature, which brings the motor up to speed slowly. Unlike the also-powerful L'Equip R.P.M., owners say that the KitchenAid Pro Line blender is sturdy and surprisingly quiet. The KitchenAid blender is best for those who need a semi-professional blender that's quieter than the competition. (compare prices)
• Vita-Mix 5000
(*est. $400)
>> Where to buy Heavy-duty, multifunction blender. The Vita-Mix 5000 wins raves from owners, who say it never balks at pulverizing whole fruits and vegetables, turns ice to snow in seconds, and even crushes wheat berries into flour. This industrial-strength blender boasts 1380 watts of power, a huge 64-ounce jar, and a five-year warranty. Owners say that if you use a blender daily – particularly for tough, high-volume tasks – this workhorse is for you. The Vita-Mix’s blades spin quickly enough to turn room-temperature ingredients into hot soup in about 5 minutes.

Odd, I have an ancient Oster and it works fine with ice. But I see some nice ones from KitchenAid and Cuisinart that are supposed to be great for ice. (Don't get a K-Tech, they suck.)

I would go with a Kitchen Aid. It can be a little more expensive, but it is well worth it and they are wonderful!
