Hello all. My 2 year old sister was "diagnosed" with Rotavirus about 2 1/2 months ago. It seemed strange to me, I am a medical student and thought it odd. She had no diarrhea, one of the huge factors in diagnosing Rotavirus. She has been vomiting on and off for all of that 2 and a half months. The pediatrician says it's still Rotavirus. And still there is no diarrhea or fever. I thought it may be Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome but where she is only 2 the doctors refuse to believe that's what it is. Any ideas? Anyone had anything similar?! Thank You!

Hii hon I agree with second opinions. But I feel you are searching for that right answer. I had a son whom spewed the day he was born until now at 17. I found he had an unusual build up of gas (greater than us normal people). I tried everything and came across plain lemonade the cheap brand not hot not cold and not really fizzy or it wont work (if it is put a dab of sugar in). About 10ml 1/2hour from a meal. You will find it should ease. The wind comes up and the stomach is settled.

I suggest you find a new doctor and a specialist. Thugh it may have started out as a Rotovirus it may have become something else or it may have been something else all along. It could be a number of things. I would demand that she be seen by a specialist so they can get some tests run. Are your parents nutsw or what? How come they haven't had her seen by a specialist before this. You cannot continue to let a little one go this long with vommiting. The more and longer she continues to vommit the harder it will be on her internal organs.

I would take her to another doctor, an internal medicine specialist at a teaching hospital if you have one in the area. I don't believe in one opinion with something serious. If the doctor took all the necessary tests and there's no reason to doubt him, then another opinion should put the diagnosis to rest.
If your still not satisfied then go to an ER and see what they have to say also.

Sometimes as students in medicine we tend to think we know as much as the doctors but remember, we're still learning. They have the experience.

You should get a second opinion just to be sure but I know a young child that actually makes herself vomit for attention. I don't know that this is the case here but I just thought that I would let you know. This little girl I know throws a tantrum and starts gagging and then throws up. Weird.

Steph, anytime a child keeps vomitting, if a doctor does not do something, I believe I would get a new dr! A friend of mine had a baby with the same symtoms and her baby had e-coli poisoning, she almost died from dehydration....get that child to another place for testing!

Your sister should be taken for a second opinion. As a med student, you know how many things it could be. Hopefully, it is just a virus and will run its course soon.

Good luck. :)
