Are Americans more Apt to be more Loyal to their local football team than their Country?

Possibly. But we havent raised ourselves to the level of civilization of citizens of SOME countries who murder people at soccer games.

No they are not. Being loyal to a local team is fun and not terribly taxing on someone. Loyalty to your country can be hard work. Why single out americans? I cant remember any riots at a football game but hear all the time of them at soccer games. So are the people fighting over soccer games more apt to be loyal to the team than their country?

Yes. Most any american sports fan can quote all sorts of statistics but often don't have a clue about politics. Yes in other countries (say the UK) can be even more rabid about their teams. So I can see where you or say americans can disagree on this and have different impressions.

But here is the thing. In the Uk (my example) news covers the entire planet and what is happening in it. It is the same in most countries. So people are more aware of politics and such. American news covers nothing of import for the most part. On any given day on the 3 major cable outlets it is internal politics (barely), a fire somewhere, some wrestler, Paris Hilton, Anna Nicole or some silly celebrity thing.

So while patriotic and saying so there is less of a sense of it with the lack of information. You can say you care about your country but with a vacuum of information it is hard to get really interested and form anything but a vague opinion. Its hard to explain.

Sometimes it does seem like it. We seem to support our sports teams more than we support our own country. I hope we have more support to our country, but I really don't know anymore.

Liberals are not loyal to either...do they count or are we talking about real Americans here ?
