I cannot wait until this weekend. It has been too long coming!!!I will be able to go in pubs, restaurants and clubs without having to breath in other peoples smoke and then go home stinking like an ashtray.
Oh and as for billybonzobones - you shouldn't even be smoking inside your house if you have children. they will breath in the smoke even if they don't come in the kitchen. If you insist on smoking when you have children then you should do it outside and so that they can't see you. Also what most people do not know is that the damaging smoke stays on your breath for about an hour afterwards, so if your children come for a cuddle or sit on your knee within an hour of you smoking you are still damaging them.

I think it is an individual thing to some respects. Often people come to associate smoking and a certain activity or other things like coffee. So when they do those activities the urge to smoke is there. Also when you eat supposedly the nicotin level drops dramatically and is needed to be replaced hence craving one afterwards. There is also a study though I do not remember who had done it or anything that people the longer they smoke the sooner the body goes into withdrawal after a cigerette is out. So for some after they have one within thirty minutes or so they feel the need to have another one.
I don't normally smoke when I go out to eat. If they have a smoking section and the people I am with are all smoking that is one thing. I don't request a smoking section if the crowd is non-smokers. But again that is me and how I feel about it. I know not everyone sees this issue the same way.
My parents both smoked as do I. It is a choice to a great extent and so is the attitude about smoking. There are times though even in smoking sections a non-smoker will get highly upset because someone lights one up. I think to some extent respect for people smokers and non-smokers is warranted. To what end? To that which the public as the whole feels is needed I suppose. I know the non-smokers don't mind so much about the smoking taxes. lol

I am a smoker and don't think I have a right to smoke where I want. But when it comes to banning it in the grounds of hospitals and having to stand a certain distance away from buildings then sod it I'm lighting up if its in the open air. I am a responsible smoker and I choose to be a responsible smoker. People don't like been told what to do. I watch where my smoke goes and blow it away from others and if I'm at a bus stop with people with breathing problems i would move away from that person. When I was with my girlfriend we always smoked in the kitchen only where her children didn't go in frequently.
You are just jumping on the bandwagon of hysteria in our society. At the moment it is smokers and the obese but be warned - something you do will be banned or targeted if this government is as bad as the last.

There seems to be no one so judgemental as those who have quit smoking, I am not sure why, you would think such a person would be the most understanding of another's addiction. Not all smokers insist on foisting their habit on others, I know I did not. I always smoked outside and away from any who did not smoke. Anyway, I quit too, and I still respect the right of those who choose to do it, I simply avoid them. I think being a smoker is becoming a very lonely lifestyle.

I'm a smoker for many years now and wouldn't smoke in restaurants or in enclosed public places, but that doesn't give people the right to judge me as a smoker or tar me with the same feather as those who do.

like you know by now the more you tell and preach at people not to smoke the more they take in, respect that person as much as you would anyone else, the smoking has been around for years, would you rather they slip around and might set something a fire or would you rather it be in the open so you could help watch.

That is a GREAT question. That is one of my biggest pet peeves! How inconsiderate. Maybe they just need to smoke so bad, that they aren't really paying much attention to the people around them.... they just need that relief! I honestly don't know, I've never smoked and never will. But does that seem reasonable?

I agree with you. You should be smoking around others faces. If you want to do it, do it away from other people so they don't have to get the 2nd hand smoke...

A smoker does not value his life or the lives of others. I have great respect for my life and the life of every human being as well as the life of every animal. Smokers can not show respect for others because they have none for themselves. The addiction has taken over all of their senses.

That's why I love living in Scotland, smoking in enclosed public spaces has been illegal for a couple of years.
I dont see what the problem is with people dreading it. It's their fault if they get soaked/cold/mugged whilst having a ciggy outside - dont smoke! save your health, money and safety!!!!!!
