I've noticed that there are alot of intelligent questions posted, & an even greater amount of ignorant, imbicile, outright dumb answers. Do people actually think?

or is Yahoo answers just a big waste of time for those who are actually looking for intelligent answers?

For the minority who do give intelligent responses...Thanks

I read the comments. And I do not think Answer! is a waste of time. Sure, there are a lot of forgetable questions and answers, but I have learned to skip them, and look for something intelligent to answer, or at least something I am interested in answering.
I do not ask many questions, I do not have many problems. I am happy and relieved to say. I just asked one, and got 7 really great answers, each of them a little different from the others. I really was sorry I had to pick just one, and said so.
Another thing I do, at least since it occurred to me to do so, is when I get a "best answer," I thank the person for it, and if they gave me "five stars", I mention that, too. I do not know if anyone ever sees it, or if people ever go back to their own questions, but I do. And if they do, I have done my polite duty.
While I am at it, the two most annoying questions are: "Coke or Pepsi" and the ever popular, "is it OK to fart in----[fill in the blank here]." I am tired of seeing them. Wish they would stop.

Like the bunny said, YA was created so answers could be offered to questions, but quite often R&S is a venue for debate and opinion. When you ask a question that requires an opinion ... you get what you get. Because I'm a glass-mostly-full kinda girl, I read other comments to questions I've responded to, but unlike you, I don't see as many ignorant imbicilic answers as much as I read some darned cute humorous ones.

Lighten up!

I'm pretty sure that it's common for some to read the question, skip the details, and kick off a response. Awhile back I posted a bit of sarcasm about gay marriage bans, and people came out of the woodwork to insult me for limiting the rights of others. Had they read the body, they'd have seen it was a joke.

I typically read the question and details, skim through the answers and thumb up anyone I agree with, then post my response. I usually come back to those I've answered too, to read what else was said and see how my response was thumbed.

No, most people don't think. You are right. But you yourself admit that there are SOME intelligent answers. They may be in the minority, but they are there, so I think Yahoo! Answers is still worth the time. I wouldn't come here for anything really serious, but it's ok for trivia or just to hear some interesting opinions on things. As for the imbeciles... I just ignore them.

Yahoo! Answers, by design, isn't supposed to be a place to wax philosophical. It's supposed to be quick fixes for little problems like "How do I fix the pipe underneath the sink?" So in a place like R+S, it's designed to house questions such as "What does John 3:16 actually mean?"

R+S is also special in it's way where there's a huge difference of opinion. It can lead to arguments and insults.

Y!A can serve it's purpose, it's just rare that it does.

I do, sometimes. If it's a toss away question, I probably won't. And I try to read all the responses when voting for a best answer, because I think it's actually an important thing to do.

I read comments, but I don't think it's a good source of information for me on most things. It seems to be more for fun for most people. Funny how they write off the top of their heads without even having experience in a specific area.

I sometimes read them before answering a question to see if there's already been several people giving similar answers. If so, I might choose not to answer; or I might anyway if I feel strongly about what I want to say.

I do...

Provided the question is intelligent and falls within my eclectic fields of interest.

If my answer has already been given by somebody else, I usually will not post a duplicate answer.
