To me it means, no matter what we do here and how great WE think it makes us, compared to the goodness of God, it is like filthy rags and cannot compare... God's mercy and love is so much more greater...

Truthful statement.
No matter how good I live, nor how pure I try to keep my thoughts (yea right), I am but a lump of filthy flesh if put before my creator.
Take the most Godly man or woman you know, including Billy or Ruth Graham and they are but filthy sinners deserving of eternal death before God.
Thankfully, this is not the end of the story!!

Sandy, Sandy,
GRACE unto you (not law)
And PEACE (not division).
Get a grip on reality, and hold on tight;
For you're fading in and out of reality.
You're speaking of Isaiah 64:6, in the "OLD" T.
Isaiah = "prophet" = "know not" = "servant" (slave).
Thou art no more a servant, but a friend, and a Son.
(Read John 15:15 ... Galatians 4:7 ... Philemon 1:16)
Pst: you don't put NEW T wine in OLD T bottles.
Revelation is written to "shew the prophets".
Revelation is NOT written by John, but by Paul.
It is "sent unto John", and it's "sign-ified" by Paul.
Hear what Solomon said of the OT LAW x 7:
it is ALL VANITY & VEXATION OF SPIRIT.
Hear what the Spirit saith "unto the churches" x 7;
For it's in Galatians is only book "unto the churches":
- the law is not of faith
- no man is justified by the law in the sight of God
- if justified by the law, then FALLEN, from grace to law
- if FALLEN, then Christ: the end of the law of NO EFFECT
- If Christ of no effect, then law: ministration of death kills ya
Try the NT = "better testament" with "better hope";
Hope of all living happy ever after and none perishing;
Also hope you'll soon Shut The F Up about yer law law.
BE STILL, and KNOW that I am God: Psalms 46:10
The GRACE(ONLY) of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Righteousness of man, man made ideas of good. Righteousness by the law or by the interpretation of Mosaic law.
Hebrews 6:1
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,...
Here Paul teaches that the works taught of the "Levites" (scribes) are dead works.
This is further defined in the 7th, 8th, and 9th Chapter of Hebrews and summed partly in:
Hebrews 9:14
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
In Isaiah it is about blood sacrifice and filthy rags are kinda blurry and are reference to menstrual cloths. This means God no longer was approving of people not truly repenting but going through a scheduled blood sacrifice ritual kinda like a monthly cycle.

The same thing comes to mind. But, I might add, that you have to accept Jesus Christ's death, burial, and ressurection as the atonement for all sin. You must repend of your own sin, and accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour.
Then, and only then, will you be able to spend an eternity in Heaven.

We are! God explains it pretty good! But we are taught that by receiving Jesus as a Lord and Saviour and by living a life according to the scriptures, we need not worry as long as we remain faithful to him, we will be free in deed. Hallelujah!

Wow, not at all like I see it. God created us -- we are a part of God therefore there is God's spirit within ALL of us. That makes us special, it is why we are given dominion over the earth. Sure we mess up, we're not God, and Jesus was sent to redirect us back to the two primary messages -- love God, love one another.
Man, learn to smile. It's all good.

It means that we can't get to heaven by our good deeds. Our good deeds are like tampons "that's what filthy rags were in that context" to God. That is - we can't do in our own. Jesus had to be the sacrificial lamb for our sins. His rigtheousness covers us. So what God sees is Jesus - in a way - when looking at us.

I believe 'rags' is what you meant to say. Also biblically, it is good works not righteousness. Righteousness is only perfectly attributed to God, and if you're conscious about details(which we need to be since we are handling truth) you will notice that God is pleased with imperfect righteousness.
