on Naprosyn EC (250 mg) anti-inflammatory. well, I had one this morning, at like 8am, and im going out later, but I'm on these pills so is it safe to drink while on them? I'm supposed to take another after ive eaten, like around 6pm, but would it be better to not take it?

The leaflet tells me that side effects are risk of heart failiure and depression etc. but doesnt mention alcohol unfortunately.

any ideas?

According to the site i've just looked at there is no mention of not drinking alcohol so you should be fine :)

If in doubt go and check with your local pharmacy....

Naprosyn, or naproxen (sometimes known more commonly as the otc product Aleve) is indeed an NSAID. It can also be somewhat harsh on the stomach, if you've been taking it for a long time (I know, from personal experience, lol).

You should be fine if you take your next dose with food, then wait an hour or so to let it all absorb, before you start in with the drinking. I've taken that particular med (prescription strength at the time), then gone out to dinner, or a club or whatever, had a few drinks, and had nothing happen.

Interactions between Naprosyn (naproxen) and alcohol (ethanol)
naproxen and ethanol (Moderate Drug-Drug)

GENERALLY AVOID: The concurrent use of aspirin or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and ethanol may lead to gastrointestinal (GI) blood loss. The mechanism may be due to a combined local effect as well as inhibition of prostaglandins leading to decreased integrity of the GI lining.

MANAGEMENT: Patients should be counseled on this potential interaction and advised to refrain from alcohol consumption while taking aspirin or NSAIDs.

why not pop in and ask a chemist ?
personally i would steer clear of the booze if there's any risk rather than rely on inexpert advise-

no medication should be mixed with alchohol. stick to O'douls non alchoholic beer for now. Mixing drugs with alchohol can multiply the effects of both several times and cause major problems.
Good luck and stay sober!!
