So the Gospels don't count, eh?
And yes, the Gospels attributed to the writers were in fact written within their lifetimes.
One convincing evidence is a papyrus fragment of John 18. It was discovered in the Upper Nile Region, and is dated to the end of the first century. This is notable, because John lived in Ephesus toward the end of his life, until he was exiled to Patmos.
For a copy of his Gospel to end up 1200 or so miles away, within a generation of the events described, shows that it had to have been written at a date earlier than many skeptics have claimed.

I don't believe this is true. First of all, I believe the Bible to be true, all of it. I found a video of a Ben Witherington Ph. D arguing whether the Bible is a myth or not. I know that is besides the point, so ignore that in the video, but the important part I found is him saying that "The four gospels were written within in the either lifetime of the eyewitness or those who had contact with the eyewitness." Since they gave testimony about Him the likeliness of them never mentioning Him during His lifetime is highly unlikely. The link to the video is here. http://www.leestrobel.com/videos/Bible/strobelT1039.htm
It wouldn't make very much sense. If none of His followers mentioned him while he was alive how would they talk to him? "Hey you...."
lol, but if you are talking of physical writing of Him before his time, that is not true. The Old Testament was written WAY before Jesus and it alludes to the coming of Jesus or the Messiah in many different ways. These people were both philosophers, scribes and eventual followers who talked about Jesus, if not in indirect ways. It even predicts which town He would be born in and the time of his birth! There are many prophecies about Him, which can be seen in a link to a site detailing them here:

Unfortunately, I'm not into any of that so I've never studied it. Therefore, I can't give you any information. Yes, the NT was written after Jesus left this earth, but it was written by people who knew him and while other people who knew him were still alive. Let's put it this way. If someone wrote a book telling how Thomas Jefferson performed a bunch of miracles, claimed to be the son of God and rose from the dead while there were people on this earth who knew him, that book would be buried somewhere and you'd never hear of it. Why, because there would be too many people around who would know that was crazy talk and who could deny it. Yet, the Bible made it through all this time. It seems to me that should be worth some thought even if it's not solid proof.

Obviously you have never looked into or read the Gospels of Christ... (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) Those were all followers of Jesus and they speak of Him on more than 1 account, actually thats is the main person they speak of. But either way He was a philosopher Himself, which is not an opinion, you don't have to believe He is the Messiah but as far as Him being a philosopher, doesn't matter what you believe. He lived and was recorded as a philosopher... also you could look into Messianic Prophecies. (those which have already been fufilled by *Jesus Christ*.)
Need any more proof?

Little Thinker,
We read in the Gospel of Matthew, Mark , Luke, John, and in the Book of Acts which were all written prior to 50AD. They are all first hand accounts of Jesus. The remainder of the New Testament was written prior to 100AD and tells us more about HIS FATHER's HOLY WORD. There are also Historians who are well known (Josephus) in that era who wrote about JESUS. If you only doubt HIS'existence then begin reading and studying and maybe you too can be saved from HELL. Have a wonderful weekend anjd a glorious LORD's DAY!
Thanks,
Eds (A faithful Christian)

Nobody was around to photograph dinosaurs but most people feel they exist. The rest believe the world is 6000 years old and God put fossils in the ground to confuse non-believers. As for records of Jesus before he started his teachings and miracles then only prophets can write about him and back in those days prophets with faulty visions were stoned. There have been some court records from Roman Governor Pontius Pilate reign in Juda relating to Christ.

No, no-one who lived before His time mentions Him by name. How could they? Though there are a number of clear references to Him in the Old Testament. As for references to Him by His contemporaries, have you ever heard of the New Testament? This was not written as a book, you know. It is simply a collection compiled by the Church, of various writings by contemporaries and near-contemporaries of Christ.

No historians, but there is anti-Jesus graffiti from just after his time and I believe there are records of his crucifixion.
