Stasis dermatitis is common and results in swollen, itchy, discolored skin on the lower legs. It is usually caused by circulation problems as a person ages. Treatment depends on what is causing the statis to start with. Usually statis results due to excessive swelling and the cause of the swelling needs to be dealt with in order to treat the statis dermatitis.

However, regardless of the cause, things that will help are:
anti-embolic or elastic stockings
elevating the legs higher than the heart as much as possible
topical antibiotics if skin ulcers are present
watching areas for signs of infection
