age has little to do with it, I had mine removed as a small child, and I have known patients in their seventies that had them removed. Most of the time, doctors don't like to remove them if it isn't absolutely necessary as they appear to have something to do with the immune system. But, repeated infections of the tonsils will sometimes result in their removal.

I'd say any age, but my son had his removed at 4 yrs old and so did I.

This is up to your doctor.. When i was a kid almost every one had them removed. We didnt have medicare then so i still have mine at age 67...
