no, roosters will grab hens by the feathers on the back of their head. I also think cats are the same way sometimes. when you hear them fighting at night. The domestic tom cat has to meaner than the female and more dominant. So I think it happens in many different species

This primarly happens in the emu family as well. To answer your question, it's when more then one male gangs up on one female and breeds with the a female. Most commonly pecking the female until death sometimes.
