Yes! You basically "faint" after less than 5 minutes of the injection. Some people will experience nausea with general anesthesia and VERY hard to get up afterwards. I wouldn't really recommend it for small surgeries such as facial plastic surgery, as it does have potential dangers. However, for bigger sugeries, it is required.

We use IV medications to get you to sleep (unless you are a small child or mentally challenged, then you might get gas through a mask or a quick jab with a needle). After you go to sleep, we have you breathe the anesthetic gases that keep you asleep.

If you are nervous, ask for something to calm you down as soon as your iv goes in. Your surgeon might even give you a prescription for a mild sedative to take the morning of surgery, but only if you ask for it.

Anesthesia doesn't fell like anything - time just stops. When it starts again, you're in the recovery room. In the interim, you'll have someone watching you very closely to keep you safe and comfortable.

They generally give you an injection, whIch makes you fall asleep in under 10 seconds.

You don't even feel sleepy...just gone.

You feel nothing at all!

Try not to worry
Good luck with the op

I just had my appendix out, and they took me into the operating room and put this mask thing on my face that was kinda shaped like a triangle, only it forms to your face. It goes over your nose and mouth, and they put oxygen in throought that. (some hospitals give the option of choosing what it smells like :-)) Anyway, i chose cherries for the smell. Then, to help you go under even more, they (at least for me) stuck some more drugs in the IV. you lose conciousness almost immediately. No biggie! :-]

Good Luck with your surgery!

ive had it done many times for surgeries, etc. they stick you in the vein with an iv. its not as bad as it sounds. then they usually hitch up a bag of fluids for your body like nuitrients. then they either put you to sleep right away and give you painkiller or send painkiller through before then put you to sleep. they usually give me the stuff through a mask to put me to sleep, but sometimes they run the stuff that makes you go to sleep through the iv. im usually out in about 3 seconds. then i just wake up when they are done and dont remember much.

the only thing you feel is them putting the iv in you. and you usually get kinda cold when they run the medicene through.

sometimes they will run water or something through your system through the iv before the medicene to clear out your veins. that feels really cold but doesnt hurt usually. it will sometimes ache a little bit for me but its not too bad.

you dont need to worry, the doctors are trained extremely well and know what they are doing. trust them, they wouldnt do anything bad to you , or inflict pain unnessecerily. one hospital i want to gave mea numbing shot before the iv, which i think was kinda stupid but if you want.....

i hope it all goes well and that whatever they are doing it for isnt too serious.

TRUST THE DOCTORS!

Um, i had knee surgery and when they put me off to sleep for an hour or so they used morphine and then the anaesthetic I(both given via a drip) to knock me sparko.

I was fine though, it just felt like I was nodding off. You don't dream or anything, its just black. Its strange when you wake uo because you don't remember nodding off. Relax though, its fine!

You're asking a question to the general public that you should be asking of your doctor.

Lots of people have gone through anesthesia. Relax.

No dude it's awesome. Definitely get the IV, you don't want to wake up, and it doesn't hurt. You don't even feel it and you're just slightly groggy when you wake up. It's actually really cool shi t, I recommend it.
